- [Instructor] Proposing alternatives. In a negotiation, there is often an opportunity to be creative with offers and concessions in order to reach a mutually agreeable solution. This means proposing alternatives that haven't yet come up during the course of the discussion and that your counterpart perhaps hasn't thought of at all. Let's look at some useful language for doing this. "Might I suggest," or "May I suggest." This is one easy way to introduce a new alternative. Remember that after this phrase, you'll need to use one of the following. The subject plus the bare infinitive verb, the gerund, or a noun. Here's an example of a subject plus bare infinitive verb. Angelie says to Jorge, "Might I suggest that we deliver the computer equipment altogether when it comes in, thus cutting costs?" And here's one with a gerund. "May I suggest delivering the computer equipment in a single shipment?" And here's one with a noun. Might I suggest a single shipment of the computer equipment?…
