Andrea Cappai's Vision: Elevating the Superbike Ladies League In the ever-evolving world of motorcycle racing, Andrea Cappai has set a groundbreaking rule: within the next 10 years, all circuits hosting the Superbike Ladies League must meet FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) Grade A standards. This mandate, effective from the inaugural event, aims to ensure maximum safety and allows local administrators ample time to upgrade their facilities to meet FIM safety parameters. The Superbike Ladies League is committed to rejuvenating historic circuits that have been sidelined by other motorcycle competitions. By modernizing or refurbishing venues like Magione, Murano Po', Pannonia Ring, and the old section of Hockenheim Ring, the league pays tribute to their legacy in racing history. Andrea Cappai 's dedication extends further, with plans to transform old airports and racetracks into Grade A autodromes. This initiative will not only reclaim and rehabilitate forgotten areas but also create job opportunities for local communities. The sporting regulations, currently nearing completion, mirror this forward-thinking approach, ensuring that the Superbike Ladies League stands for excellence and innovation. Hero MotoSports successfully completed Day 1 of the two-day Stage 6 at the Dakar Rally 2024. Shortly after 4pm on Thursday (Day 1), Ross Branch and Joan Barreda crossed the 513km mark in the 6th and 10th spots respectively. In the virtual overall rankings, Ross moves to second, and Joan is 10th. The 48-hour Chrono is a new format introduced at this year – a significant upgrade from the erstwhile Marathon stages until last year. Stage 6 has a total of 835km to cover across two days, of which 626km are timed. The Empty Quarter became the playground for the gruelling two days in an endless sea of dunes. All competitors left for the Empty Quarter early on Thursday. As soon as the clock struck 4pm, all competitors were ordered to halt at the next Break Point (BP) zone they came across. There are six BP zones spread across the course of the stage for competitors to halt and stay over for the night. At the end of the first day, only 10 top Rally GP class riders out of 128 motorbike competitors made it to Break Point F, and both Hero riders are in this group. A quick follow-up: Everyone, in life and work, face challenges and obstacles from time to time. How one handles such situations, says a lot about who they are. And when it takes a team to overcome the challenges, it speaks volumes. For those of you that are familiar with the Track cycling world, top level race bikes are hard to find. It is a small market, and manufacturers / retailers don't often keep inventory on hand. Stromm Cycles was the first to reply. I heard from them within minutes of my outreach. Other teams, and cyclists from around the world offered to help. One other manufacturer responded in a timely fashion, but didn't have inventory. Other manufacturers replied later, due to being involved in ongoing race events, and on key manufacturer never responded. Stromm Cycles worked with us to sort out sizing, had a frame that fit, understood the urgency, and worked with us to make this financially feasible and to expedite shipment. UPS had some challenges with the shipment (from North America to Spain) along the way. While they could have been better, in the end, the UPS International and UPS Spain teams came through, working with myself and the Federació Catalana de Ciclisme to get the bike delivered, arriving 5 hours before the first race. The Federació Catalana de Ciclisme went above and beyond, to help solve the issues, and take care of the team. They even kept staff on duty until 9pm to ensure the bike could be received. Then they provided a mechanic to help with the specialty aspects of building up a bike from the frame and component parts. In the 5 hours, the bike was build, fit to the rider (a non-trivial process), addressed a couple of tricky issues at the last minute, check in just before, and after the race. The bike and rider (Tom Perkins) were ready for the 40km (160 lap) Madison. There were 10 teams on the track (2 riders per team). The Federació Catalana de Ciclisme paired a Spanish rider with our Tesseract Racing rider to compete as a team. They placed 5th out of 10 teams, finishing with the pack, on the lead lap, where our team and the winning team were the only teams to take a lap on the field. And it was a fast, talented field of cyclists in the Elite Men category. What a wonderful way to christen a new bike! New bike. New build up. First time fit on frame. No chance to test the bike or fit. Just race! Such an excellent example of multiple organizations and people working together to solve an urgent issue. A huge thank you to everyone involved. Tomorrow Tom races again in the Omnium. McKenna McKee races in the Keirin and is facing a very strong field of Elite Women riders, including Team GB's top riders. In Lyon, McKenna took bronze in the Keirin, and Gold in Match Sprint, winning all but 1 heat in 2 rides. Prior to that, Jenna Nestman placed well in her races in Slovakia, and Prague, Czech Republic. After Barcelona, the team moves to Grenchen, Switzerland, then Budapest, Hungary, and home.
