"My name is Meredith, and I'm the program manager for the van outreach team. I care about working in the community that I live in and being part of helping people who are experiencing marginalization. I appreciate working under a harm reduction framework. I feel like it’s respectful, it creates honesty, transparency, and progression. I wouldn't work somewhere that wasn't focused on decolonization, and that's something I see here a lot. In a management position, you're less frontline, but I care so much about people being treated respectfully, so my job is to make sure that the team that's going out and doing frontline work has all the tools and training they need to work in a respectful and trauma-informed way. In the winter, you see an influx of people going into shelters. And with cold weather, you need more supplies, you need more clothing, and you need more resources. That's something we notice in the van - when there are limited spaces, people don't have anywhere to go. I see the van as the first step in connecting with someone on their housing journey, and then the shelter is kind of like the second step. It’s a lot of communicating what somebody's unique needs are and what they will be in a shelter context. Communicating that with people working in shelter, giving the person a safe ride, giving them all the things that they all need in the shelter. There’s also when we bring people to the shelter, we're expressing to the shelter that the person is interested in case work, so shelter can accommodate that. With this type of work, you do see people benefiting from donations. You see people getting better. You see people having access to detox. You see people going to warm spaces." The training is done. The snacks are packed. Knight Frank #CycletoMIPIM with Club Peloton is a go! It has been a busy year so far work wise, but the commuting has kept my legs ticking over. This is not a lighthearted challenge - it is borderline Type 2 fun - as it should be, but we choose to do this. One of the biggest draws for me to repeat this ride again is the other more important reason - the charities who support others who have no choice in the their early life paths. The charities we support, such as Coram and Cyclists Fighting Cancer are simply amazing. A snapshot of how the money is used - - recruiting families for 1,150 children waiting longer than 18 months to find adoptive homes - assisting 500 families with post adoption support - awarding 800 bikes, tandems and adapted trikes to children and young people affected by cancer - supporting research to illustrate the relationship between physical and mental well-being and physical activity in children surviving cancer - tackling the root causes of violent street crime through 18 amazing projects We've raised nearly £170,000 so far this year, which is incredible, but we need that extra push to reach our target. Those days were filled with fear, uncertainty, and a profound sense of isolation.
