(EN) Xbox Game Studios Announces Closure of Four Game Studios, Including Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks Microsoft and Xbox have made the decision to shut down four game studios, as reported by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier. The affected studios include Arkane Austin, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog Studios, and Roundhouse Games. Arkane Austin and Roundhouse Games were both responsible for the development and launch of Redfall in 2023, a game that has garnered mixed reviews since its release. Tango Gameworks, known for titles like Ghostwire: Tokyo and The Evil Within franchise, most recently released the well-received Hi-Fi Rush in 2023. Meanwhile, Alpha Dog Studios primarily focused on mobile game development. In an email obtained by IGN, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty explained that the decision stems from a "reprioritization of titles and resources" at Microsoft. Booty emphasized the company's commitment to investing in Bethesda's portfolio of blockbuster games and beloved worlds. As a result of these changes, some members of the Arkane Austin team will be relocated to other studios within Bethesda. The development of Redfall will cease following its most recent update. Booty acknowledged the disruption caused by these decisions and expressed gratitude to the affected teams for their creativity and dedication. Suite aux conflits l'opposant aux deux géants, Apple et Google, Epic Games officialise son launcher sur Android et iPhone. Epic Games s'est rapidement démarqué sur PC il y a quelques années avec ses offres hebdomadaires de jeux gratuits et ses avantages côté développeurs ; avec une faible commission, un service vocal et anti-cheat intégrable facilement, le launcher est rapidement apparu comme un concurrent direct à Steam. Aujourd'hui, l'Epic Games Store débarque sur mobile, et dessine une future alternative aux stores natifs sur Android et IPhone, renouvelant le débat sur les commissions intra-boutiques et le monopole des stores sur les systèmes d'exploitation de poche. L'écosystème d'Epic Games est particulièrement conséquent : avec son formidable moteur Unreal Engine, son outil de rendu architectural Twinmotion, ses outils de ressources 3D comme Quixel Bridge, ses services multijoueur, ou encore ses franchises à succès comme Fortnite, Epic Games propose des services à destination de nombreuses utilisations. Son arrivée sur mobile apporte une certaine fraîcheur et un nouveau terrain de jeu pour les joueurs, et les développeurs à l'avenir. L'Epic Games Store sur PC n'étant toujours pas rentable, l'entreprise doit encore parcourir un long chemin pour espérer détrôner ces plateformes, des concurrents qui sont à la fois intuitifs et accessibles (Unity conserve encore une place importante et des services comme AdMob de Google par exemple, offrent une monétisation peu éthique mais efficace)... ...ou peut-être tout simplement se tourner vers un marché plus régulé, un marché qui casse les codes et qui exploite au maximum la renommée et la popularité d'Epic Games.

Bon ... Epic Games bascule officiellement sur Fab. Globalement, c'est pas mal du tout, mais ça m'apparait aussi comme une régression sur certains points - sauf si, évidemment, je loupe quelque chose : - plus possible d'ajouter des assets dans une wishlist ?? - les étoiles de notation ok, mais quid des commentaires & questions ? On va dire que ce n'est que le début et que ces limitations seront bientôt corrigées. Et vous, votre opinion sur Fab ? Okay... Epic Games is officially switching to Fab. Overall, it's pretty good, but it also seems like a regression in some ways - unless, of course, I'm missing something : - no way to add assets in a wishlist ?? - star ratings are okay, but what about comments & questions ? I just sat in front of my Xbox crying tears of joy! As a disabled person I am so used to having my needs ignored, dismissed or refused. That's why the feeling of playing a video game with the accessibility settings I need is so uplifting. The opening moments of #StarWarsOutlaws is like an inclusive welcome. Menu narration is automatically on and I can enjoy a Vision accessibility preset as I explore the opening scenes. But the moment that started my ugly crying was as I explored the high contrast settings further. I can select specifically the level of contrast, highlighting colours and detail of contrast that I need. This is why accessible gaming is so powerful. Gaming is an industry used to customising settings and users demanding choice in their experience. So the understanding of varying levels of need is more easily accepted. I can play Star Wars Outlaws on a day with 'good vision' with minimal settings but I can still play it on a bad day with everything boosted to the max. I'm so proud to have been part of the work that created this accessible and inclusive experience. Thank you Ubisoft, Ian Hamilton & David Tisserand It also gives me a positive example to explore with other industries and businesses. Here are some questions for you to reflect on: Do you disabled customers feel an inclusive welcome? Can they enjoy your products or services on a bad day as well as a good day? How are you working with disabled people to understand their needs and how to best support them?

I am concerned about the new direction Epic Games is taking with it's new marketplace ecosystem "Fab". There are definitely some good things about this platform such as an engine agnostic marketplace, a lot of developers can benefit from regardless of what Engine they use, hopefully a better search system, improved performance to name a few. However, as per the statement released by Epic, this new marketplace is no longer going to support questions and reviews for the products moving ahead. This is a matter of serious concern. Asking questions has helped many developers (myself included) to be able to clarify the use case of the asset/plugin before purchasing it. The reviews have also helped many of us avoid wasting money on bad quality assets and plugins. I fear that removing this feature will increase the risk of frauds happening on the marketplace. Smaller studios and individuals with limited funds cannot afford to take this risk. Epic Games, you must keep this feature in the marketplace in the best interests of the consumers. I don't understand why a useful feature which already exists in their older ecosystem is being scrapped moving ahead.
