The EV Mirage. Few days back I was waiting for an Uber ride to go out for a bite with a few friends in Jamshedpur. However, to my surprise the cab assigned to us was a Tata Nexon EV. Not just that a large number of Two and Three wheelers in the town was also Electric vehicles. This was a surprise to know how much the EV has penetrated the Indian market. To be exact the EV sector is growing at a CAGR of nearly 22.9% and the market is expected to reach nearly 120 billion US dollars by the year 2030. Amidst this EV wave one question remains. Is EV the ultimate solution to the sustainability problem? The answer is Yes and No. The Electric generation in India is heavily reliant on Non-Renewable sources. Nearly 53% of the power is generated through Fossil Fuels and with growing need for more electricity and power the emissions are a major concern on the short term. The second major concern will be the rate of infrastructure development. The rapid rate of EV market growth adds on to the challenges However, in the long-term India is moving towards a more renewable approach to power generation. States like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, which are the major markets for EV, now rely on Renewable energy for more than 50% of the needs. Though Electric Vehicles might not be an immediate solution to the issue at hand, it is however important step in the right direction with more energy efficient solutions such as H2 cells. #Sustainablity #EV

So after the Tatas and Mahindra, it is now the turn of another homegrown business house to place a bet on the high-potential, but highly-competitive, Indian auto market. The JSW group of Sajjan Jindal is making an ambitious bid in the auto industry as it partners Chinese giant SAIC for a foray into green cars with Rs 5,000 cr of fresh investments. Alternatively, it is spending another Rs 40,000 cr in Odisha to set up capacities for electric cars and commercial vehicles, as well as batteries and renewable energy. Manmad-Indore railway line, key to Pithampura Industrial Area, approved by Cabinet The Manmad-Indore 309 kilometre railway line has received the green light with a total outlay of Rs 18,036 crore (1.9B€). The project will require about eight years to be completed and will enhance connectivity across key regions in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The project also aims to enhance connectivity to the Pithampur Industrial Area, home to major industrial players like Mahindra Group, VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd. (a joint venture between Volvo and Eicher), Force Motors Ltd, and RATHI STEEL INDUSTRIES PRIVATE LIMITED.
