Incident Update: Fire on LPG Tanker “CAPTAIN NIKOLAS” 🚨 A serious fire broke out on the LPG tanker “CAPTAIN NIKOLAS” during a ship-to-ship (STS) operation with the “B-LPG SOFIA” in Kutubdia inner roadstead, Bangladesh. The fire was triggered by a cargo hose rupture after the mooring lines broke. 🚒 The Bangladesh Coast Guard’s firefighting tug PROMOTTO, along with several tugs from the Bangladesh Navy and Port Authority, are actively working to extinguish the flames. 🙏 Thankfully, all 28 individuals—including 18 crew members from “CAPTAIN NIKOLAS”, two mooring hands, and eight shore personnel—who jumped into the sea have been rescued by the tug Tufan Express. However, the fire on “B-LPG SOFIA” remains unresolved. 💭 Our thoughts are with those affected, and we commend the efforts of the rescue teams. #Securite #LPG #STS #MaritimeSafety #Bangladesh 🔥🛳️

Royal Navy looking for new harbour training ship The UK Ministry of Defence of Defence (MoD) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) as part of an effort to gather insights into the development of a new “warship experience” for Royal Navy Cadet Forces and other youth organisations, according to a pre-procurement notice published on 13 August 2024. The RFI, under Project Powerful, seeks to address the gap left by the decommissioning of HMS Bristol in December 2020. HMS Bristol had served as a Harbour Training Ship (HTS) at Whale Island, Portsmouth since 1991, providing cadets with vital residential accommodation and a realistic warship experience. The loss of HMS Bristol, due to escalating maintenance costs and safety concerns, has significantly impacted the Royal Navy’s ability to offer a comprehensive training experience for its cadets and youth groups. Historically, the HTS at Whale Island supported around 30,000 bed nights and hosted approximately 500 courses annually for cadets and youth participants. The MoD notes that the absence of this facility has diminished the quality and realism of the training experience that the Royal Navy is expected to deliver. In response, Project Powerful aims to re-establish a UK-based warship training environment that combines residential accommodation with access to water-borne activity facilities. The objective is to provide cadets with a challenging and contemporary warship experience, readily accessible from their home training locations or during residential camps. This initiative aligns with the Royal Navy’s commitment to Defence Enabling Objective 11.11 and JSP814 Policy and Regulations for MOD Sponsored Cadet Forces. #maritimeconnection #training #defence #skills National Shipbuilding Office

Opportunity is high at sea for those #seekingemployment, and there are a number of reasons for this. With the expansion of the Maritime Security Program (MSP), the MSP fleet is growing from 47 to over 60 ships. There is also growth in the U.S.-flag cruise ship industry. Because there are so many different types of vessels, there is a range of choices that is unmatched. That means as employees working under contracts between maritime companies and the Seafarers International Union, merchant mariners have the opportunity to sail on a wide variety of vessels, including deep-sea cargo vessels and military support ships, where mariners continue to support U.S. troops in Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Also in the opportunity mix are Great Lakes vessels, cable ships, tugboats and passenger ferries. The place for many American men and women who set their sights on setting sail is the Paul Hall Center for Maritime Training and Education. The state-of-the-art school, affiliated with the Seafarers International Union, offers the most U.S. Coast Guard-approved courses of any maritime school in the nation-from entry level to license preparation to academic support. In addition to academic support, the school offers GED and college degree programs. In fact, many of the maritime classes can be used for college credits. Since its opening in 1967, approximately 145,000 students have trained there. The apprentice program blends hands-on training with classroom instruction. It consists of three phases, including 90 days aboard a U.S.-flag ship. That particular phase has helped boost the industry's retention rate-approximately 75 percent of students who complete the entire program are still sailing four years later. At any given time there are 100 trainees at the school-some in Phase 1, others in Phase 3 (Phase 2 is at sea). Based in Piney Point, Md., the school's training tools include bridge and engine simulators, the Joseph Sacco Fire Fighting and Safety School and a culinary lab.

🚒 Today, fire brigades are deployed worldwide not only to fight fires, but also to deal with accidents or severe weather events and therefore bear an enormous responsibility for the general safety of the population. In order to be able to guarantee this, the fire brigade is equipped with a very wide range of equipment, which above all has to reach the operation site quickly and reliably. For this purpose, roll containers are often used within a vehicle to bundle the equipment and make it mobile. Wheels and casters attached to these roll containers must therefore ensure that they function continuously in hazardous situations. Blickle wheels and casters help fire brigades to ensure their reliability in emergencies. This includes a high-quality tread that enables very effortless movement and a dead man's brake, which is only released during operation and engages again immediately when the trolley is released. Find out more about the exciting use of wheels and casters in fire brigades 👉https://ow.ly/xJ4L50QjLGW #WeInnovateMobility #FireBrigade #mobile #DangerousSituation

I used to mistakenly tell my students that I wanted our classroom to be a “safe space” where we could all feel comfortable being a little vulnerable and openly have difficult conversations. I argued, if we couldn’t do this at the Air Force Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy (AFSNCOA), where could we do it? However, I came to realize that what I actually wanted/needed was to create a “brave space.” In the realm of adult learning, a safe space forms the foundation, fostering trust and psychological safety, allowing individuals to share openly without fear of judgment. However, a brave space pushes adult learners beyond their comfort zones, encouraging them to engage in uncomfortable conversations that may challenge their perspectives. Navigating our misunderstandings, disagreements, assumptions, frustrations, friction or even conflict, is what bears the seed for generative solutions—solutions we desperately need. As the new students of Class 24C walk into Flight 2 and enter this brave space, they must accept a level of discomfort when discussing personal perspectives and experiences knowing they are safe to do so because a classroom culture of respect and civility. Fostering this type of dynamic learning environment for today’s Senior Non-commissioned Officer prepares them for the challenges they face as tomorrow’s Senior Enlisted Leader. ✈️💪🏻 #comfortablebeinguncomfortable #personalgrowth #challengeyourself #selfawareness
