Canada needs to change course! An economy built on immigration alone could not be sustainable. We need to develope a Canadian-based economic system that includes: natural resources, industrial production, innovation, construction, infrastructure, Canadian Aerospace and Canadian automotive. Why is Government subsidizing the foreign automotive industry? They come they take and they leave, Aren’t we able to design and build a Canadian automobile for export to other countries? With all the subsidies offered to Stellantis, Wolksvagen and Honda we could have built a state-of-the-art mega factory ourselves to manufacture an all Canadian EV, We have enormous potential in the Aerospace industry Why are we allowing foreign investors to buy the Bombardier C series when Canadians taxpayers contributed to the development of such beautiful aircraft? Hopefully a new leadership in government will keep some of these ideas in mind.

As July 1st quckly approaches and all of the festivities begin for Canada Day, it's crucial to reflect on what this day represents, especially from the perspective of Indigenous communities. For many Indigenous people, July 1st brings a complex mix of emotions—honoring resilience, acknowledging ongoing challenges, and advocating for reconciliation. Canada Day marks more than just a national holiday; it symbolizes a history of colonization and its impact on Indigenous lands, cultures, and identities. It's a day to recognize the diverse Indigenous nations that have stewarded these lands since time immemorial. This year, let's use Canada Day as an opportunity for meaningful reflection and action. Let's amplify Indigenous voices, support Indigenous-led initiatives, and commit to the ongoing journey of reconciliation. Together, we can build a Canada where Indigenous rights, cultures, and contributions are fully recognized and respected. #CanadaDay #IndigenousPerspectives #Reconciliation #RespectIndigenousRights

Leadership Development & Project Management Consultant. Author. Speaker. Emotional Intelligence Coach. Coach to Project Managers
I heard it during the river cruise. I heard it at the beginning of each city tour. And I heard it each time my local flight landed. It was a simple acknowledgment. On each Qantas Airways flight, the landing announcement included the following: 𝑾𝒆 𝒂𝒄𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒍𝒆𝒅𝒈𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝒃𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑻𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒆𝒔 𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒕 𝑰𝒔𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑪𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒅𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒏 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒘𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌, 𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒇𝒍𝒚. 𝑾𝒆 𝒑𝒂𝒚 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒆𝒍𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒑𝒂𝒔𝒕, 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒕, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈. When the Europeans arrived in Australia in 1770, they did not recognize the rights of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Instead, they declared that Australia was 𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘢 𝘯𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘶𝘴 - land belonging to nobody. They plundered and ravaged the land; and tried to kill off the original owners of the land. But things seem to be changing. Over the last 30 years, a lot of work continues to be done toward reconciliation. That's why I heard that simple acknowledgment on local flights in Australia. And the tour guides say them before every city tour they give. It took over 200 years, but these are steps in the right direction. I think we Americans can learn a thing or two from the Australians. Instead of denying the atrocities committed against Native Americans, we should be reaching out for reconciliation. Rather than trying to rewrite history by claiming that slavery was beneficial to the slaves, we should be taking steps toward acknowledging past wrongs and correcting the policies that encourage the continuation of systemic inequities. I think these would be steps in the right direction. Just saying' ==================================== #SunnySpeaks #Reconciliation #LessonsFromAustralia

Today as we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, we reflect on the many contributions Indigenous people have made to Canada. As an organization and as individuals, we recognize and respect: - The diversity of Indigenous cultures and worldviews and their roles in Canada’s past, present, and future. - Our collective responsibility to share natural resources revenues and close gaps in socio-economic conditions between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. - Our role in the journey towards reconciliation by advancing Indigenous knowledge systems in all our work. - Our privilege to live, work, and play on Indigenous land.

Ashton College will be closed for Victoria Day in Canada: May 20th, 2024 Why do Canadians celebrate Victoria Day? • Birthday: Queen Victoria’s birthday. She reigned for 63 years! • Honouring History: Queen Victoria's reign coincided with Canada's Confederation in 1867, earning her the nickname "Mother of Confederation." • Unofficial Summer Kickoff: Victoria Day often falls on the long weekend before summer. Many Canadians see it as a time to fire up the BBQ, head to the cottage, or enjoy some outdoor activities! Do all provinces and territories recognize Victoria Day as a statutory holiday? No. There are four Canadian provinces that don't celebrate Victoria Day in the same way as the rest of Canada: • Nova Scotia: Victoria Day isn't a statutory holiday in Nova Scotia. They enjoy the long weekend, but it's not an official provincial holiday. • New Brunswick: New Brunswick doesn't consider Victoria Day a paid public holiday. • Prince Edward Island: Prince Edward Island has Victoria Day listed as a holiday in provincial legislation, but it's not a statutory holiday with guaranteed time off work. • Quebec: Quebec renamed the holiday "Journée nationale des Patriotes" (National Patriotes Day) in 2002 to commemorate the Quebec Rebellion of 1837-38.
