Going to a hospital in this country is an interesting conundrum 😵💫 🆔 First, there is the smart access app. So, you no longer need a card for identification. Then there is the Biometric Identification. Which is great progress! This gives you your health insurance scheme balances, etc. Great progress. However, we still seem unable to get rid of the paper! WTH! 🤦🏼♂️ The same information that the Insurance Company and the hospital have in digital format has to be written down on the paper claim form. How do we align these two and complete this #DigitalTransformation? I see the problem as one of lack of communication and alignment in the Healthcare/Insurance Value Chain. Am I wrong? How can we solve this?

C'est pour cela qu'on nous traite d'assureurs-voleurs m'a dit un ami, collègue il y a 35 ans et cadre dirigeant aujourd'hui chez un grossiste très connu dans le monde de l'assurance. Ça s'est passé lorsque je lui ai raconté la mésaventure de ma belle-mère : cette ancienne femme de ménage âgée de 85 ans en situation de dépendance n'est toujours pas indemnisée après des tractations depuis plus d'un an avec son assureur. Fidèle cliente depuis 24 ans, à jour de ses cotisations, elle se voit refuser toute indemnité car ... elle est dans un EPHAD au Portugal. Une précision pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas ce type de contrat, il s'agit de verser un montant à une personne lorsqu’elle devient dépendante. Mais c'est dans le contrat me rétorque l'assureur April et alors même qu’Hanover notre réassureur est d'accord avec nous. Le porteur de risque GENERALI FRANCE m'écrit que le fait qu'elle soit au Portugal n'est pas le principal obstacle à indemniser. Je me demande alors pourquoi l’obstination de ces trois entreprises qui brassent des milliards d'euros à ne pas régler 915 euros par mois à une vieille dame au moment où elle en a le plus besoin. Quelle importance qu'elle soit au Portugal, en France ou sur la Lune ! On ne demande pas de régler des frais d'hospitalisation en Floride 5 fois plus chers qu'en France ou d’être dans un EPHAD en France, 4 fois plus cher qu’au Portugal mais de verser un forfait établi par contrat. Plus d'un an d'échanges avec les assureurs, quatre mois entre les mains du Médiateur des assurances...et aucune indemnité.

Real Costs of Hospital Plans It's been five years since the last article on underwriting profits/losses was published. Such transparency helps consumers understand how well insurers manage hospital plans. It is a widely known fact that premiums and benefits of these plans can change yearly. The health of the product line indicates an insurer's ability to maintain competitive premiums, benefits, and claim experiences. Until recently, premiums and benefits were the top considerations for choosing a personal shield plan. However, increased awareness of other costs has led consumers to scrutinize additional factors, such as the servicing agent and the insurer. 3 real costs of hospitalization plans: 1️⃣ Inadequate Advice When dealing with a medical condition, you face pain, anxiety, and financial stress, including questions about claim processes. A competent, trusted servicing agent can alleviate this stress, whereas an inadequate one adds to it. The cost of additional medical interventions will cost much more than the savings from slightly lower premiums. It's better to work with someone you trust than to frequently switch plans based on changing premiums and benefits. 2️⃣ Poor Claim Experience Slow turnover or cumbersome claim processes can lead to the inability to claim pre- and post-hospitalization bills, causing significant financial stress. Insurers aim to alleviate this stress through seamless claim experiences with fast processing and easy submission. Maintaining high-quality service requires adequate funding, but if an insurer continues to incur underwriting losses, they will start cutting costs in this area. 3️⃣ Insufficient Coverage Recently, Medishield Life narrowed its cancer treatment coverage, shifting more responsibility to IP providers (insurers). Insurers must have strong financial positions to provide essential, competitive coverage, as cancer coverage now varies among providers. Future changes may occur, so it's crucial to choose an insurer capable of maintaining comprehensive coverage for essential shortfalls. If you're in good health, consider the long-term implications of hospital plans beyond current premiums and benefits. Hospitalization plans in Singapore may offer similar benefits, but the financial health and management of each insurer's shield plan vary greatly. I cannot stress enough how important this decision is because premium WILL increase as we age, but how much it increases and with what benefits, really depends on the insurer's ability to provide.
