As of January 1, 2024, pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, and advanced practice pharmacists renewing their licenses are obligated to fulfill a minimum of one hour of continuing education (CE) on cultural competency.   Becoming Inclusive in a Diverse Community Supporting the LGBTQ+ Community in Our Pharmacies May 7th, 2024, 7:00-8:00 PM Learning Objectives: At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to: 1. Define intersectionality as it impacts sexual identity and health outcomes 2. List key health disparities faced by the LGBTQ+ and BIPoC communities 3. Describe how one can be inclusive to individuals to members of the LGBTQ+ and BIPoC communities 4. Recognize how intersectionality impacts members of LGBTQ+ and BIPoC communities 5. While June Pride Month is officially over, we must continue to educate ourselves and support LGBTQ+ rights and people every day. Human lives cannot be explained by single categories, such as gender, race and sexual orientation. The intersection of these categories can produce both experiences of privilege and oppression. In the past two decades, Asian Americans have become one of the fastest growing racial or ethnic groups in the United States. The 2020 presidential election saw historic voter turnout by the AAPI electorate. AAPI voters had the highest growth of any racial group in 2020, with a 47% increase. The Pew Research Center affirms that Asian Americans have been the fastest-growing group of eligible voters in the United States over roughly the past two decades and since 2020. Their number has grown by 15%, or about 2 million eligible voters, in the past four years. That’s faster than the 3% growth rate for all eligible voters during that span. The data is clear, and it confirms what we’ve known. AAPI - or more inclusively, Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander voters are critical in the outcome of elections.
