Call of Duty 2019 Coming to “Multiple Next-Gen Platforms” – Rumour

Narrative Scripter job listing also suggests the return of single-player campaign.

Even before Treyarch releases Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, work is going on behind the scenes for the next Call of Duty. Infinity Ward will be next in line for releasing its title in 2019 if the franchise’s tri-yearly launch cycle remains intact. To that end, Call of Duty 2019 could not only have a single-player campaign but launch for “multiple next-gen platforms”.

This is according to a recent job listing on SelectMinds for a Narrative Scripter at Infinity Ward. “Come work with the game industry’s brightest on a new, exciting, unannounced title for multiple next gen platforms.” The implication is that “next gen” refers to new console hardware.

Does that really mean a launch for the PlayStation 5 and next Xbox along with current gen platforms? Call of Duty 2019 could very well release for the current generation while hitting next generation consoles later though this isn’t something the series is typically known for. Any way you slice it, what else could “next gen” possibly refer to? Perhaps the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X? It’s a long shot, for sure.

The other, more tangible bit is that Infinity Ward  is seeking a Narrative Scripter, which means that the next Call of Duty will have a campaign. “In this hands-on role, you’ll collaborate with scripters, sound designers, writers, and directors to implement voice-over performances in-game across a wide variety of player experiences – from combat to set-pieces.”

It’s worth noting that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 does have three Zombie maps with different stories along with Specialist missions providing background information on the multiplayer classes. Even if Call of Duty 2019 doesn’t end up having a campaign, Infinity Ward could be hiring for similar narrative content.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is out on October 12th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. What are your thoughts on next year’s Call of Duty? Let us know in the comments.
