Death Stranding Will Likely Release On Both The PS4 And PS5, Says Michael Pachter

Will Hideo Kojima really make us wait that long?

The question of when Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima’s upcoming magnum opus will launch is one that has been on the lips of a large number of people. And while many hopeful people have predicted a late 2019 release date, there are those who believe that it may very well end up launching on the PS5. Industry analyst Michael Pachter of the firm Wedbush Securities certainly agrees with that assertion as well.

Recently we got a chance to sit down and chat with Pachter about a number of things, and one of the things we asked was if the lack of any new announcements by Sony at E3 2018 was indicative of them shifting their focus away from the PS4 and instead ramping up for the next generation. Pachter wasn’t fully confident that that was indeed the case, reiterating that the system will probably launch sometime in 2020 (which is also when the next Xbox will launch, as per him). Interestingly enough, though, he also mentioned that Death Stranding might end up becoming a cross-generation title, and thus appear on the PS5 as well.

“It’s hard to know with Sony,” Pachter said while speaking with GamingBolt. “Their [E3 2018] showcase was really hard to figure out, and they didn’t talk at all. My bias is that they [the PS5]  will also launch in 2020, so no reason to announce any current generation exclusives other than the ones announced so far. Death Stranding will likely be a cross-generation title.”

After several years in development, we still don’t know much about the game, only just saw its first ever gameplay footage, while a release date still wasn’t confirmed. Not even a release window.
