Destiny 2 Moving Eververse Items to In-Game Rewards, Crimson Days Out on February 13th

Expect to earn Eververse items from in-game activities and receive Crimson Days items frequently in February.

In the big development update concerning the future of Destiny 2, Bungie game director Christopher Barrett spoke extensively about changes that were coming. Chief among those changes was Eververse, how Illuminated Engrams would work for the upcoming Crimson Days event and XP gain rates.

Barrett confirmed that Ghosts, Sparrows and ships that could only be found in Bright Engrams (purchasable with real money in the Eververse store) would now be doled out through in-game activities. There will also be a “gameplay path” for players to earn Bright Engrams and the rewards within. Furthermore, options for direct purchase and changes to Bright Engrams to weigh them more towards items players want is also in the works.

These changes will go into effect on February 13th when Crimson Days starts. If you complete Nightfall, Raid and Crimson Days milestones during the event, you’ll receive an exclusive Legendary Emote, Weapon Skin and Exotic Sparrow respectively. Double Engrams will be earned with level up, one being a Crimson Days Engram and the other a regular Illuminated Engrams. You can also expect Crimson Engrams to drop from Crimson Days matches and completing Crimson Days milestones for each character.

The weightage of rewards in Crimson Engrams will be “strongly” towards new rewards until all event items have been obtained. And in case you’re worried about XP gain rates, Barrett addressed this as well.

“We are still investigating changes to XP earn rates. Our goal with any updates to XP are transparency and consistent XP gain regardless of your preferred activity. Right now, it’s too slow in general and lopsided towards grinding specific activities (which is not a fun grind) and we want to fix that without making those activities low value to players who aren’t grinding them (fairness is cool). Our first attempt turned out to be unworkably buggy so we’re having to investigate other angles. We will continue to update you as we move forward.”

So far, it sounds positive but we’ll have to wait and see how it plays out in practice. What are your thoughts on the upcoming changes to Eververse? Let us know in the comments below.
