Bungie finally unveiled what’s in store for Destiny 2: Shadowkeep with Armor 2.0 – a revamp of the game’s armor system. In a recent stream, it revealed that all Legendary Gear post-October 1st would become Armor 2.0. So if you want to go back and collect sets from the European Dead Zone, Nessus and so on, have at it.

What does Armor 2.0 entail though? Essentially, all armor will have their own element and stats – with Intellect, Discipline and Strength returning to join Mobility, Resilience and Recovery. They won’t have perks though – it’s up to you to slot perks in via mods (with Exotics being the exception). Each armor piece has a set amount of energy with each mod having an energy requirement. So if you want to have damage resistance against major enemies, that will cost 1 energy.

Upgrading gear with materials – including new Shadowkeep materials like Enhancement Prisms and Ascendant Shards – will increase the energy cap, allowing you to equip costlier mods. Fully upgrading armor will “Masterwork” it, increasing every stat by +2. However, some mods can only be equipped on certain pieces of armor based on their element and type. You’re also unable to stack two similar mods in the same piece.

All armor pieces accept ornaments, including Eververse, bringing transmog into the game for the first time. Perhaps the best news, however, is that unlocked mods can be swapped in and out of your loadout. No more consumable mods (though it will cost 500 Glimmer to equip them). The Glimmer cap is being increased to compensate, going up to 250,000 overall.

Overall, it’s an interesting system and one that mirrors the Decorations seen in the Monster Hunter series or the mod system in Warframe. Destiny 2: Shadowkeep is out on October 1st for Xbox One, PS4 and PC so stay tuned for more details on its gameplay (especially at Inside Xbox on August 19th at Gamescom).
