Destiny 2: The Witch Queen Delayed to Early 2022

Bungie also confirms another expansion coming after Lightfall.

Bungie has announced delay for Destiny 2’s next big expansion, The Witch Queen. Originally slated for release this year, it’s now slated for early 2022. Interestingly enough, the developer also confirmed that there would be another expansion after Lightfall that would “fully complete our first saga of Destiny.”

The ambition behind the story of The Witch Queen was noted as one of three reasons for the delay. “Beyond Light built the foundation and allowed us to weave the world-building of Destiny and Destiny 2 together, but The Witch Queen will light the fire on a strongly interconnected narrative across Lightfall and beyond, unlike anything we’ve ever attempted before, with characters, arcs, heroes and villains that persist over multiple future releases.” Bungie wants this expansion to be the “first of many moments” that are crucial to Destiny’s story and is thus taking time to “build out this journey in the right way.”

Other reasons include upgrading the game’s approach to weapons and armor, adding features like cross-play and transmog, and so on. Of course, the COVID-19 pandemic was also cited as a major reason with Bungie looking to deliver upcoming updates and the expansion at a high enough level of quality while adhering to a realistic schedule.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen hasn’t received many details but its name pretty much confirms some kind of encounter with Savathun, the titular Witch Queen and Oryx’s sister. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
