Now that Destiny: The Taken King has officially launched, we have a better idea about what Bungie’s goals have been all along. Luke Smith, Bungie’s Creative Director for the game recently sat down with Planet Destiny for its Podcast and explained a number of different ways the company went about trying to fix the problems that have plagued Destiny since day one. The exec also talked about some new strikes and Legendary Marks.

When it comes to putting legendary marks in to this game, Smith told Planet Destiny, “Regarding Legendary Marks, Bungie wanted to make Marks important again and give players tough choices as to what to purchase. The same concept goes for Motes of Light, giving players options to use them for experience, give them to factions or stockpile them for infusion.” Smith also talked about the way the teamwork mechanics that have been recently added are geared towards helping players deal with new strikes better.

At the same time, Smith wanted to make sure everyone knew that the new mechanics might not be ones that mirror those in the raid. That reason is because the raids would always have to come before the strikes and that isn’t always the case in this game. Speaking of cooperation mechanics, Smith said they’ve been working hard to keep the crucible light and fun for everyone who plays it. He also added that, “because you can design your character so specifically in Destiny, it’s hard to convince people that it can be competitive.” The entire interview with Smith lasted over an hour and you can listen to all of his comments in the video below.
