Electronic Arts and Motive Studios made waves last year when they announced a partnership with Marvel Games for an Iron Man game. The single-player third-person action-adventure title promises to be a “super high production value triple-A experience.” Not much else is known other than it features an original story that draws on the character’s “rich history.”
However, it could be developed on Unreal Engine instead of EA’s Frostbite engine. A job listing for a senior level designer on Iron Man asks for over five years of experience and, among other requirements, “Familiarity with an advanced game engine like Unreal.”
While this isn’t hard confirmation, Electronic Arts-published titles have been shifting over to Unreal Engine over Frostbite. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is developed on Unreal Engine 4, and its sequel, Jedi: Survivor, seems to follow suit. The next mainline Mass Effect title also runs on Unreal Engine 5, and Codemasters’ WRC title is rumored to be using it (though the version is unknown).
Time will ultimately tell, especially since Iron Man is in pre-production, so stay tuned for updates.
