To say that March was a busy month for the UK would be an understatement with all of the major games that were released. According to the latest digital and physical game data from GSD (via GamesIndustry), 2.77 million games were sold in March with 1.94 million being digital downloads. Elden Ring topped the combined sales charts for the second month in row, to no one’s surprise.
Gran Turismo 7 didn’t fare too badly though – 45 percent of its sales were physical, making it the best-selling physical title of the month. More than 73 percent of total sales were on the PS5. Then there’s Grand Theft Auto 5 which saw an amazing resurgence and ended up in third place. Sales are up 45 percent compared to March 2022, thanks primarily to the release of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions.
In terms of console and accessory sales, Gfk revealed that over 112,000 consoles and more than 700,000 accessories were sold. Xbox Series X/S sales were up by 61 percent compared to February, making these the combined best-selling consoles of the month. Nintendo Switch sales dropped by 21 percent month-on-month (though it’s still the top selling console of this year) for second place. Though stock for the PS5 was up by 45 percent compared to February, shortages are still bad enough to place it in third for console sales.
