Halo Infinite is looking like the reinvention of the Halo franchise that we’ve been waiting for, with reports suggesting everything from RPG elements to player choices in the story. However, it looks like 343 Industries are thinking about taking new approaches to growing the series in other ways as well- more specifically, they might be thinking of adopting a live service model for Halo Infinite.

Recently while speakingat Fortune‘s Brainstorm Design conference, Kiki Wolfkill, the head of Halo trans-media at 343 Industries suggested that the studio is looking at methods of dropping new content at a fast and steady clip in order to be able to keep toe-to-toe with the current market trends, which see games changing almost on a constant basis. In Wolfkill’s own words, 343 Industries is thinking of “having a set of rules that people can engage with and buy into for years to come.”

“We have to be able to change content quickly,” said Wolfkill. “We can’t afford to wait three years every time we drop a new product and have it be a black box because the games kids are playing are changing every week.”

Whether this means a complete change in genre, or is referring to a model of post-launch content being doled out on a consistent basis is anyone’s best guess right now (though it’s probably the latter). Halo Infinite is due out… some time. There’s no word on a release date, though reports have suggested that announcements might be inbound at this year’s E3. Franchise director Frank O’Connor has also assured fans that the game will still be launching on the Xbox One.
