Helldivers 2 is Rolling Back Enemy Spawns and Patrols Changes

The developer was too busy with the controversy surrounding Helldivers 2 needing PSN account linking to notice these problems earlier.

Developer Arrowhead Game Studios has announced on the official Helldivers 2 Discord channel that it plans on making changes to patrols and spawning rates of enemies in the game, according to IGN. The studio plans on rolling back some of the changes that were originally made to enemy spawns and patrols in a previous update.

Community manager Twinbeard took to the Discord channel to talk about the upcoming changes, revealing that the studio was essentially swamped because of the recent PlayStation Network account linking controversy that Helldivers 2 went through. As a result, the studio wasn’t able to spot the issues with enemy patrols and spawns until more recently.

“As many of you have noticed, something has been off with patrols and spawn rate for some time now,” said Twinbeard on the Discord channel.

He went into detail, explaining that more enemies are showing up than the studio originally intended. This has essentially led to players facing a much higher degree of difficulty, making it less fun for some players.

“This primarily leads to more enemies rearing their ugly heads than they’re supposed to, indirectly to players feeling overrun, kiting, and subsequently less fun gameplay,” Twinbeard continued. “This has been the case for all players, but predominantly for smaller teams and solo playing. We’ve been aware, but frankly, the past couple of weeks have been so hectic that we haven’t been able to give this the TLC that it required. We now have, and we’ve concluded that it’s not working as intended and we’re changing it.”

While the studio is still making some tweaks to enemy spawns and patrols, it is essentially rolling back to how things were before the patch that brought about the change from a few weeks ago.

“There might be some minor tweaks, but overall we’re reverting back to how patrols and spawn rate worked before the patch that changed them a few weeks ago,” he said. “We believe that this is more or less how you currently want them to be.”

Twinbeard went on to reveal that, while it is a relatively simple change, it will still take some time to implement, since the studio wants to give the update “proper testing and review”.

“Even if this means we’re faced with more bugs and bots than even the bravest of citizens would deem realistic for a while longer, we hope you’re happy with us fixing the problem,” he said.

Helldivers 2 has been quite successful for Sony and Arrowhead Game Studios, having sold 12 million copies since its release earlier this year. The game also recently got a new Premium Warbond. For more details about Helldivers 2, check out our review.
