Mass Effect: Legendary Edition Won’t Include Mass Effect 1’s Pinnacle Station DLC

Corrupt backups for the original code led to it being cut.

BioWare finally showcased Mass Effect: Legendary Edition in all its glory earlier this week, touting visual improvements and quality of life features like unified character creation. It also includes over 40 downloadable content packs would be included in the overall package. That’s not quite all of the DLC though.

Speaking to Game Informer, director Mac Walters said that Pinnacle Station from Mass Effect 1 won’t be included. The reasoning for this is simple – the source code had initially been lost and BioWare went through an “emotional roller-coaster” to locate backups. When Demiurge Studios finally sent over the same, it was revealed to be corrupted.

“It would basically take us another full six months just to do this with most of the team we’ve got. I wish we could do it. Honestly, just because this is meant to be everything that the team ever created, brought together again—all the single-player content. And so, leaving it all on the cutting-room floor, it was heartbreaking.” To be fair, Pinnacle Station wasn’t exactly the most noteworthy of DLCs. It included 13 combat scenarios with Challenge modes like Time Attack, Hunt and Capture and so on along with providing two new locations.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is out on May 14th for Xbox One, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5. Other content that won’t be making the cut is Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer – find out why here.
