Rainbow Six: Siege Will Have Microtransactions

Because of course it will.

You know one of the things I hate the most about modern gaming? Microtransactions in a full priced retail game. I mean, I understand their presence in a free to play game- it makes sense for them to be there, and the developers do have to earn their money back somehow. But for a game you are already charging me $60 upfront, to have the gall to sell me further content piecemeal? Content that should have been in the full priced game to begin with? That rubs me off the wrong way.

Which is why, as you can probably guess, I am not thrilled by the news that Ubisoft’s otherwise pretty cool looking upcoming team based multiplayer shooter, Rainbow Six: Siege, will have microtransactions. The game will feature an entire alternate economy, called ‘Rainbow Credits.’ We have this information thanks to an interview with the developer by YouTube personality Angry Joe– though we don’t yet know exactly what they entail, and how they will work in game.

We’re sure Ubisoft will have an official statement on this soon, so stay tuned, we’ll update this as soon as we learn anything. Meanwhile, I have to say, for a $60 game that is shipping with no form of single player whatsoever, Ubisoft have somehow found a way to make the game seem even less appealing as a full priced package.
