Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2 caused quite the flurry recently as the company announced a release date of October 26th for Xbox One and PS4. Of course, that meant delaying it from the initial Spring 2018 release. Though it promised to reveal more information in the coming weeks, it seems that Trusted Reviews received some documents containing more details.
The information was actually received in August 2017 from an anonymous source but went unrevealed until recent promo materials helped validate them. We only know snippets about the game’s story based on observation (like it being a prequel to the first game) but you should still take this information with a large grain of salt.
First off, regarding the single-player campaign – the protagonist is Arthur Morgan, seen in the recent trailer, with Dutch Van Der Linde also playing a big role (and yes, he’s the same leader of the infamous gang from the first game). The story is said to take different directions depending on how you speak with and the actions taken. Mission objectives could also vary along with the dialogue. There’s also an interesting feature to receive information from enemies that are wounded if you opt to not kill them.
In terms of the open world, there will be areas like Armadillo and Ridgewood to explore with total freedom. You’ll find cities filled with NPCs and even travel across different parts of the world with trains. These trains also have their share of characters in them. Horse-drawn carriages, minecarts and handcarts, each with different varieties (some faster and others tougher) will also be included. First person mode is making its debut here and Eagle Eye is also said to be returning. You can go first person in both the campaign and multiplayer modes.
Side activities this time around will include a “deep” fishing system utilizing different bait and seeing the player catch different types of fish. You can partake in horsemanship challenges, play poker and even use a crafting system to make different things with the plants and herbs gathered. Interestingly, there will also be random kinds of events that can start quests much like Grand Theft Auto 5’s Strangers and Freaks missions.
Again, keep in mind that despite being able to corroborate the promotional materials it received, some of the information provided here may not be accurate so stay skeptical. Still, it doesn’t sound completely unbelievable either, especially based on what we’ve seen already. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
