The original Star Wars Battlefront (well, not the original, but the 2015 reboot) may have disappointed critics and fans of the original games alike, but it was still a major success. And now, it looks like EA is expecting the same from the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront 2 this year.
Speaking at a financial call with investors, EA Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen noted that the company expects to ship as many copies of the game by March 31 next year as it did of the first Battlefront between its launch and the following March 31- 14 million copies worldwide. That’s a massive number, of course, but it’s not entirely an unfounded projection. The Star Wars brand is massive, the game is releasing next to the highly hyped The Last Jedi movie, and with the new single player campaign, and multiple other player friendly moves that indicate that DICE paid attention to the criticism the first game received, is generating a fair bit of hype even among the cynics who got burned by the first game.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is due out on Xbox One, PS4, and PC in November this year. It’ll be interesting to see just how big the game ends up being.
