Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is the sequel to the hit co-op action title Warhammer Vermintide. This first-person game will feature some brutal melee action as players take on the Chaos Army and the Skaven horde. In what we’ve seen of the game, it looks gorgeous and we’re certain that it will be able to make full use of capabilities of the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. However, there are bound to be some differences between the two enhanced versions of the game as well.
To find out more about this, Gamingbolt reached out to Robert Backstrom, Senior Producer at Fatshark Games who discussed how the specifications of the Xbox One X and the PS4 Pro compare with each other and how this affects the game’s performance.
"This is is something that we are still working on and can therefore change but we definitely get 4K support on the Xbox One X and 1440p native resolution on the PS4 Pro."
Xbox One has a more relaxing support for mods (bigger file size etc) but Sony is much more reluctant. Do you have plans to add mod support and do you think the PS4 will be harder to do so?
Right now we don’t have any plans to support mods upon release on either of the consoles. But if it is something that the players would love to have there is nothing preventing us to look into adding it later on. Right now I wouldn’t know if mod support is easier on the PS4 or the XB1.
Any plans to support HDR on Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, PS4, Xbox One and PC?
Vermintide 2 graphical content is SDR mastered for display on both HDR and SDR devices.
The game is confirmed to be an Xbox One X and PS4 Pro enhanced title. Can you please list out the additional enhancements?
This is is something that we are still working on and can therefore change but we definitely get 4K support on the Xbox One X and 1440p native resolution on the PS4 Pro. Other than that there is the inherited improvements that we get from the more powerful CPU which will give us a higher and steadier framerate. We are also looking into the possibility to prioritize enhanced title players as hosts since their hardware will handle being a server much better.
Anything which you are able to do on the Xbox One X but not on the PS4 Pro?
The Xbox One X have native 4K resolution which the PS4 Pro are unable to attain.
"We will always output in 4K (Xbox One X) or 1440p (PS4 pro) regardless of your TV. If you are on a non 4K TV set it will downsample to whatever it supports."
What resolution and frame rate does Warhammer run on Xbox One X and PS4 Pro? Will you have separate modes for 4K and 1080p TV owners?
We will always output in 4K (Xbox One X) or 1440p (PS4 pro) regardless of your TV. If you are on a non 4K TV set it will downsample to whatever it supports. You will most likely still get a better visual experience than the non enhanced version. Worth mentioning is that the game is not GPU bound we don’t get an increase in framerate when lowering the render output and therefore it makes little sense for us to not use maximum render output on the enhanced versions.
And what about the base PS4 and X1 versions? What resolution and fps will they run on?
We are targeting 1080p and 30 fps for the base versions.
Microsoft have made it compulsory for developers to make their Xbox One games compatible with Xbox One X and vice versa. Do you think this will hold back Xbox One X’s true performance in any way?
For us it haven’t – it is very much the same approach as for the PC version of the game where you need to support both low end and high end PC´s which we are well accustomed to.
In your opinion, how does the Xbox One X compare to a high end modern gaming PC?
Not too bad actually. I think it offers great value for its price and with its specs it should suffice even for the hardcore players.
Do you think consoles are now closing to PC in terms of performance because of the common X86 architecture?
It definitely cut overhead costs of development of multi-platform titles, freed up resources that can be spent on content improvements instead. Short answer – yes.
