🇿🇲 Zambia is at a crossroads. For two decades, the country has experienced cycles of growth, yet true economic transformation remains elusive. For too long, Zambia has relied on copper exports, with limited investment in value-added industries, manufacturing, and digital innovation. Growth in key sectors like tourism and agro-processing has been sluggish, and fiscal challenges continue to undermine economic progress. Economic diversification is stagnant, productivity growth is lagging behind regional peers, and women and youth remain underrepresented in key economic sectors. What’s next for Zambia? The Growth with DEPTH framework offers a clear pathway forward: ✅ Diversification: Reduce dependency on raw materials and invest in high-value industries. ✅ Export Competitiveness: Improve infrastructure, trade policies & market access. ✅ Productivity: Prioritize education, skills training & entrepreneurship. ✅ Technology: Drive digital transformation & financial inclusion. ✅ Human Well-being: Close gender gaps & strengthen social protection. The ACET Zambia CETO outlines the strategies needed to accelerate economic transformation. 📖 Read the report and join the conversation ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dN_8g_pe 💬 What’s the biggest challenge holding back Zambia’s economic transformation? [SPONSORED] African countries that close gender gaps grow faster and transform quicker. 📈 Morocco improved gender equality by 26% over two decades and saw a 17.6-point jump in economic transformation. Rwanda’s gender-inclusive policies have fueled stronger GDP growth. Yet, some countries have improved gender equality without corresponding economic transformation. Why? Progress must be intentional and backed by smart policies. The 2025 African Transformation Report analyzes power, power, and perception to provide a roadmap for lawmakers, businesses, and stakeholders to bridge the gap. “Gender equality is a call to share power. Sharing power creates a fair society. Fair societies de-risk future generations.” Today, Monica Geingos joined the Women Transforming Africa dialogue, discussing how we can dismantle stereotypes and shift power for gender equality. She joined Hon. Emma Theofelus, Minister of ICT, Namibia, and Crystal Simeoni, Director of The Afrifem Macroeconomics Collective (Nawi Collective) for a virtual discussion titled Beyond Stereotypes: Shifting Power for Gender Equality. Speaking on economic empowerment, Monica suggests rethinking capital formation. She highlights that directing portions of state procurement spending to women entrepreneurs can be a game-changer—fuelling wealth creation and driving economic growth for female-owned businesses. Delivering the closing remarks, Mrs. Geingos implored women, particularly those in prominent positions, to speak up for themselves—an act that may not serve them immediately but ultimately benefits future generations. 📊 NEW DATA ALERT: African Women's Inclusion Index! Women’s inclusion in Africa has improved, but at the current rate, full financial and economic equality won’t be achieved until 2093—sixty years after the African Women’s Decade (2020–2030) ends. The African Women’s Inclusion Index tracks progress across 42 African countries in four key areas: law, leadership, financial inclusion, and economic participation. Where does your country stand? The biggest obstacle to women’s economic participation? Not ability, but access. Social norms keep women out of decision-making, while institutional barriers restrict land ownership, finance, and digital tools. Women are also disproportionately burdened by unpaid care work, forcing many out of the workforce. The cost is astronomical. Africa loses $95B annually due to gender inequality. The opportunity to unlock this economic potential lies in bold, data-driven policies that break these barriers and drive inclusive economic transformation.
