A huge thank you to Ghana School Aid for their kind donation towards a Library and Learning Zone in Nandom Inclusion Centre and to Book Aid International for their generous donation of books! As well as ensuring access to reading in our beautiful Inclusion Centres, we’ll also deliver book boxes to partner schools, so the children can nurture a love of reading and learn about the world. Without good English, it’s impossible for children to progress in education or secure professional jobs. We’ve launched a Just Giving page to match fund their grant - so if you want to support this fab project, you can give a child the gift of literacy here: https://lnkd.in/eEiYA7fU

Working to end poverty in Lawra, Ghana, leaving no one behind.
About us
Action Through Enterprise (ATE) is a small but growing, dynamic charity. It is one of the only charities working with communities in Lawra District, in a remote corner of Upper West Ghana. Our mission is to reduce poverty in Lawra District, Upper West Ghana through education, enterprise and social change. Already ATE has achieved fantastic results in improved attendance of hundreds of school children through the provision of free school meals and enabled small business owners to continue to gain new skills and make greater profits to support themselves and their families year-round. We are also immensely proud to make it possible for families with disabled children to overcome isolation and discrimination, and find renewed strength to raise their children to fulfill their potential. Action Through Enterprise was founded in 2012 by Sarah Gardner during her year as a volunteer teacher trainer in Lawra. Moved to action by the level of poverty she encountered, she began to listen to and work with the local community to bring about positive change. We believe in the power of working in partnership with local people to enable them to thrive, to promote economic development and improve the quality of life for all people in Lawra District and the surrounding areas. We also believe that the positive impacts we are having should be deepened and expanded, to reach more people in the Upper West who experience the struggles of living poverty. Our vision is to significantly reduce poverty in the Upper West Region of Ghana. We have the passion, expertise and the will to achieve this. We would value your support.

We are so thrilled to be featured in the Autumn 2024 edition of Rotary Magazine! Sarah Annable-Gardner spoke to her first Rotary Club in early 2013 right at the beginning of the ATE journey - nervous and hopeful! The Rotarians in that room were incredibly kind and supportive, providing vital funds, advice and friendship. “When I heard Sarah speak, it really had an impact,” recalls Nigel Henham, Past President of Swindon Rotary Club, who coincidentally grew up in Ghana. “There was a meeting of minds, of wanting to do something, wanting to help the less privileged. And Sarah was running with it. She was actually doing it.” The charity had only been going a few months - but the work was already awe-inspiring. More than 10 years later, and not only do the people of Rotary Club of Swindon still fund life-changing work through ATE, they honoured Sarah with the prestigious Paul Harris Award this summer and have helped us to meet so many other fantastic clubs and people. Thank you to all of the amazing Rotary Clubs that work with us to change lives in Ghana, we are so grateful for all of the brilliant work you do to support us and so many other wonderful causes around the world. We love meeting new people and sharing our story, so please reach out to book Sarah to come and speak at your club! Rotary International, Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland.

Thank you so much to our friends at Fidelity Energy Ltd for raising a huge £2880 for us this weekend! Dean Crann, Jacob Hunter-Flack, Raj Blanchard, Owen Miller and Jack James tackled the gruelling George Fisher Tea Round, 30 miles of 10 peaks and over 120000ft of climbing. They walked for nearly 14 hours, a massive effort in really difficult conditions. We are so incredibly grateful for their amazing efforts, raising huge funds for our children and adults in rural Ghana. Thank you all so much ⛰ Fidelity Energy Ltd are generously encouraging staff to raise funds for us, supporting their team to take on exciting challenges and raise money through sponsorship. It's a brilliant initiative and one we're SO grateful for. Thank you Fidelity Energy Ltd - we love changing the world with you by our side! https://lnkd.in/gEJiW2aS

We launched Nandom SNAP 💚 Today we welcomed disabled children and their parents to Nandom Inclusion Centre, for the very first time. 48 children came with a parent/carer, they laughed and played whilst the adults talked and supported each other. This is the start of a huge journey for ATE in Nandom. We can’t wait to tackle inclusion, to make life better for these children. Best of all, our fantastic team did it brilliantly. A new start, a new challenge. We are so excited to be doing this important work.

Friday night saw the gala dinner at the end of another incredible #GammaBallRally. This year, in beautiful Bordeaux! A massive thank you to Gamma and their amazing events and marketing team who put together a perfect event, the generous sponsors Akixi, Dubber, Nuvias UC & Xantaro, and every single person who made it such a special and well supported night. The #GammaBallRally has meant everything to us over the years. Since the very beginning of ATE they've been by our side. The donations raised over the years have made it possible for us to grow, to be secure, and to ultimately change thousands of lives for the better. We simply couldn't have done it without this community of completely brilliant people. Thank you to everyone who makes it so special. We are so incredibly grateful! A huge shout out to our friends at SpecialEffect, the other charity supported by the Rally. They do truly wonderful work to enable everyone with disabilities to access technology - it is humbling and inspiring to hear from Nick Streeter, SpecialEffect about their life changing work and the difference the Rally makes to them.

“Women have periods. That’s just biology. Yet, in Ghana, many can’t go to school because they can’t afford sanitary pads. This is an outrage.” Izzy Tolputt, 17, Wiltshire For the past 2 weeks, Izzy has been doing work experience with us, focusing on how periods compare between the UK and Upper West Ghana. Enjoy her brilliant write up here: https://lnkd.in/eV9XWvZv

320 pairs of shoes In July we delivered over 300 pairs of shoes to our disabled children, all purchased locally (amazing income for the shoe sellers!), all for children who urgently needed them. Many of our SNAP families are extremely vulnerable and live in chronic poverty. Most of these children do not have correctly fitting shoes, their parents simply can’t afford to buy them as children grow. Children can’t go to school without a pair of shoes, they can’t play, they can’t walk to market - they are trapped at home. Shoes protect more than just feet, they give children a chance to live fuller lives. An incredibly generous donation just 4 weeks ago made this possible. Tangible, direct impact - delivered quickly and changing lives. We love the difference we make and our amazing friends who make it possible. Huge admiration to the incredibly women (Helen, Esther and Ernestina) running our SNAP Programme for getting correctly sized shoes to hundreds of very rural children in a short space of time! Heroes as always.
