BPA BUSINESS UPDATE *📈📉 BoG Publishes the eCedi Report In 2019, the Bank of Ghana (BoG) announced plans to explore a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), referred to as the "eCedi." The BoG has released the eCedi Report, which outlines the key considerations and success factors for conducting a CBDC pilot. The eCedi is envisioned as a digital complement to cash, intended to boost financial inclusion and improve the efficiency of payments. The eCedi Report serves as a comprehensive introduction to the BoG’s vision for a digital currency. Within this report, the Bank of Ghana revealed that it successfully completed a pilot project in a controlled "sandbox" environment, testing both the feasibility of issuing the digital currency and its acceptance by users. Yesterday, the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) launched the Cybersecurity Industry Forum at a ceremony in Accra. This event marked the inauguration of the Independent Assessors. The Industry Forum, established under Section 81(1) of the Cyber Security Act, 2020 (Act 1038), aims to foster collaboration among cybersecurity stakeholders, share knowledge, and promote best practices across various sectors of the economy. During the ceremony, it was announced that the Industry Forum has developed an Industry Code and Constitution to govern its operations. This initiative is expected to boost Ghana's cybersecurity landscape, paving the way for long-term partnerships to drive policy, standards, and innovation in the industry. The Independent Assessors, a group of highly qualified cybersecurity professionals, will collaborate with the CSA to enhance Ghana's cybersecurity ecosystem within a cooperative regulatory framework.
