About us
Ghana Investment Support Programme (GhISP) is a British International Investment (BII plus) technical assistance initiative launched in February 2023. The initiative aims to increase investment flows to underserved SMEs in Ghana including women-led (2X), black-owned and led (BOLD), green and those serving BII’s Target Populations. GhISP has been designed to drive enhanced development impact while being aligned with Investment strategies in Ghana. It accomplish this through a dual pipeline development and market shaping strategy. The approach offers tailored assistance to intermediaries to better receive and deploy capital to underserved segments first, while also leveraging these investments to influence and shape the wider investment ecosystem.

Last Friday, the Ghana Investment Support Programme (GhISP) hosted a significant meeting at the BII Ghana Office, honored by the presence of Colin Buckley, the Managing Director and General Counsel for British International Investment. Colin visited to gain a comprehensive understanding of GhISP’s mission and its accomplishments to date. The meeting was attended by our key partners, including the Ghana Venture Capital Association (GVCA), the Big 4 accounting firms, and ENS, who each shared their views on the outlook of the PEVC ecosystem based on their areas of expertise and their collaborative achievements with GhISP. The meeting was highly engaging, with Colin expressing great enthusiasm for the program and emphasizing the importance of its pilot implementation in Ghana. He also underscored the critical need for replicating the program across other African countries. David Ganesha Tetteh, our Senior Consultant, provided a detailed update on GhISP's achievements thus far. Through our partnerships, GhISP has made substantial progress in strengthening the investment ecosystem. Key initiatives include: 1. Offering training sessions and workshops for transaction advisors and fund managers. 2. Providing pre-investment technical assistance to BII portfolio companies. 3. Engaging in pipeline building activities, such as matchmaking for investor-ready SMEs. 4. Publishing and disseminating thought leadership on climate finance and conducting a gender and diversity landscape study within the ecosystem. In addition to these vibrant discussions, a central topic was the Investment Advisory Solution campaign in collaboration with the Big 4 and GVCA. The Big 4 reaffirmed their commitment to the campaign, ensuring the provision of affordable yet high-quality investment advisory services to mid cap SMEs. Colin expressed excitement about the discussions and the valuable insights shared by our partners regarding the current ecosystem landscape. Our partners also elaborated on their efforts to strengthen the Private Equity and Venture Capital (PEVC) industry in Ghana, reinforcing the collaborative spirit and shared goals for future initiatives. As part of our ecosystem-building mandate, Ghana Investment Support Programme, powered by British International Investment, commissioned Open Capital to undertake a comprehensive Gender and Diversity landscape report. This initiative aimed to uncover more gender-inclusive deals and drive positive change within the investment community. On January 31st, 2024, we had the privilege to host a dynamic Gender and Diversity investor roundtable in partnership with Open Capital. Facilitated by the GVCA, the event provided a platform for robust dialogue surrounding the barriers and opportunities in promoting gender diversity within investment landscapes. A highlight of the event was the presentation of findings from the gender and diversity landscape report undertaken in Ghana. Their insights shed light on key areas for improvement and highlighted the importance of gender-inclusive approaches in investment decisions. Furthermore, fund managers seized the opportunity to showcase their offerings to transaction advisors and SMEs, fostering potential partnerships and investment opportunities.
