One of HACSA’s goals is to empower women & girls because we believe it will help build a better future. Women in leadership positions is still rare enough to be fêted and celebrated. Unfortunately women are still held up to higher levels of scrutiny than men when it comes to top leadership positions and this must change to see more women in such roles. Therefore it is even more remarkable that Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has shattered another glass ceiling to become the first African woman to become Secretary General of the Commonwealth. She has shown women around the world that with focus, confidence and determination you can overcome institutional barriers and your ambitions and dreams can come true! Congratulations Madam Secretary General! We wish you all the best in your new job!
