Strengthening Denmark-Nigeria Partnerships in Livestock Development
The Trade Council team at the Consulate General of Denmark in Lagos was pleased to facilitate a visit to Milkin Barn Agriserve Ltd. in Oyo State, organized and coordinated by Trade Advisor for Food and Agriculture, Victoria Epelle, and led by Consul General Jette Bjerrum.
This engagement was designed to explore partnership opportunities, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building initiatives within Nigeria’s livestock sector, with a particular focus on dairy development and sustainable agribusiness.
The visit commenced with an informal catch-up session with the Special Advisor on Agriculture to the Governor of Oyo State, where discussions centered on the state’s vision for livestock development and potential areas of Danish-Nigerian collaboration.
The delegation then visited Milkin Barn Farm, located within the Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub, where CEO Tony Jibunoh led a tour of the facility. The farm is a key player in Nigeria’s dairy sector, housing high-yield cattle breeds such as Friesian, Simmental, and Jersey, which contribute significantly to milk production and industry self-sufficiency. Discussions focused on:
✅ Improving dairy productivity through modern technology and training
✅ Strengthening value chains to enhance local milk production and processing
✅ Exploring Danish expertise in sustainable livestock management
Following the farm tour, Trade Advisor Victoria Epelle also coordinated a high-level meeting with the newly appointed Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha. Discussions revolved around livestock management, capacity-building initiatives, and investment opportunities to accelerate the sector’s growth. The meeting underscored the potential for Danish companies to collaborate on knowledge transfer, training programs, and innovative dairy solutions.
The delegation stayed at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, a globally recognized agricultural research hub. IITA is at the forefront of:
🔹 Crop improvement and livestock integration
🔹 Sustainable farming systems
🔹 Agribusiness incubation and technology transfer
By hosting the delegation at IITA, the visit provided valuable insights into research-driven agricultural transformation and opportunities for collaboration in livestock and dairy development.
Denmark remains committed to fostering strong partnerships in Nigeria’s agricultural sector, particularly in livestock development, dairy production, and agribusiness training. We look forward to strengthening these collaborations to drive innovation, productivity, and long-term sustainability.
A special thank you to all our hosts, partners, and stakeholders for making this engagement a success!
