  • Today is #InternationalWomensDay💪 In 1915, women were granted full voting rights in Denmark. Since then, the number of women in the Danish Parliament, Folketinget, has been increasing, and today, women hold nearly half of the parliament seats🚺 In 2021, the Danish Parliament decided to commission a painting honoring the contributions of female politicians to Danish democracy. This decision was made to increase diversity in the portraits displayed at Christiansborg and to recognise the significance of women in Danish politics. Recently, the new group portrait was revealed depicting 30 of the most noticeable Danish female politicians since 1915. Opposite the new painting is Herman Vedel’s famous artwork from 1918 which displays the 30 men who prepared the 1915 constitutional amendment that secured women the right to vote. The new painting is painted by visual artist Mie Mørkeberg 🎨

  • ♻️ Waste is a Resource, Not a Burden! ♻️ Waste management is a hot topic in Nigeria! In just the last 10 days, Lagos State hosted two major events, reinforcing the need for public-private collaboration in transitioning from a linear to a circular economy. 📍 OCCCE’s ‘Charity Begins at Home’ Waste Valorization Valentine Jamboree (Feb 14) at the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, brought together key stakeholders, including Mrs. Titilayo Oshodi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Climate Change & Circular Economy. The event launched a recyclable waste collection hub, allowing public service workers to earn value from waste while promoting sustainability. 📍 The AWAMN Waste Management Conference convened local and international stakeholders, with a strong #TeamEurope presence, including the Royal Danish Consulate General in Lagos. Dr. Gbenga Adebola, President of AWAMN, made a call to action for greater efficiency in resource use and a shift towards a fully circular economy. Lagos State Governor H.E. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Mrs. Titilayo Oshodi, echoed this, emphasizing that the take-make-dispose model is no longer sustainable. Other high points included a keynote by Dr. Ola Oresanya, Hon. Commissioner for Environment, Ogun State, and insightful panel discussions featuring the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) leadership. 🇳🇬 🤝 🇩🇰 Nigeria’s waste sector holds immense economic and environmental potential. With a population of over 200 million, the demand for recycling technologies, material recovery facilities, and bio-waste processing is rising. Danish companies have the expertise to support this transition—whether in waste sorting, biogas, or sustainable recycling solutions. The Trade Council is here to connect the right partners and drive strategic projects in Nigeria. Let’s turn waste into opportunity! • Strengthening Denmark-Nigeria Partnerships in Livestock Development The Trade Council team at the Consulate General of Denmark in Lagos was pleased to facilitate a visit to Milkin Barn Agriserve Ltd. in Oyo State, organized and coordinated by Trade Advisor for Food and Agriculture, Victoria Epelle, and led by Consul General Jette Bjerrum. This engagement was designed to explore partnership opportunities, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building initiatives within Nigeria’s livestock sector, with a particular focus on dairy development and sustainable agribusiness. The visit commenced with an informal catch-up session with the Special Advisor on Agriculture to the Governor of Oyo State, where discussions centered on the state’s vision for livestock development and potential areas of Danish-Nigerian collaboration. The delegation then visited Milkin Barn Farm, located within the Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub, where CEO Tony Jibunoh led a tour of the facility. The farm is a key player in Nigeria’s dairy sector, housing high-yield cattle breeds such as Friesian, Simmental, and Jersey, which contribute significantly to milk production and industry self-sufficiency. Discussions focused on: ✅ Improving dairy productivity through modern technology and training ✅ Strengthening value chains to enhance local milk production and processing ✅ Exploring Danish expertise in sustainable livestock management Following the farm tour, Trade Advisor Victoria Epelle also coordinated a high-level meeting with the newly appointed Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha. Discussions revolved around livestock management, capacity-building initiatives, and investment opportunities to accelerate the sector’s growth. The meeting underscored the potential for Danish companies to collaborate on knowledge transfer, training programs, and innovative dairy solutions. The delegation stayed at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, a globally recognized agricultural research hub. IITA is at the forefront of: 🔹 Crop improvement and livestock integration 🔹 Sustainable farming systems 🔹 Agribusiness incubation and technology transfer By hosting the delegation at IITA, the visit provided valuable insights into research-driven agricultural transformation and opportunities for collaboration in livestock and dairy development. Denmark remains committed to fostering strong partnerships in Nigeria’s agricultural sector, particularly in livestock development, dairy production, and agribusiness training. We look forward to strengthening these collaborations to drive innovation, productivity, and long-term sustainability. A special thank you to all our hosts, partners, and stakeholders for making this engagement a success!
