The West African Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (WAIMM) is a professional Institute that provides services to all sectors of the mineral and geosciences industry across West Africa and beyond. WAIMM is a voluntary, non-governmental organization with the strategic objective of enhancing professionalism in the mineral and geoscience industry and also to represent the complete spectrum of mining, mineral and geoscientist professionals in regional geology, mining and research, also to promote the interest of the industry across the West African sub-region and beyond. WAIMM membership cuts across the entire the industry right from the students to retirement, and are available to students, public etc. interested in the mining and petrochemical industry depending on the career progression and professional development. Membership operations are supported by a strong code of professional ethics, exceptional professional and career development opportunities, first class networking; exceptional professional recognition, leadership and input into science, industry and the society. The broad base of WAIMM membership encourages the transfer of technical expertise and awareness of professional opportunities and knowledge transfer across a broad range of fields. WAIMM members are assured of strong networking opportunities through conferences, workshops etc and have access to the latest information, research findings and knowledge sharing through technical publications, journals, webinars, conference papers etc. Members also have access to most career development opportunities, professional education programs, mentoring opportunities etc. at discounted rates. The WAIMM education fund can be accessed by universities to fund research into technological developments in industry related projects.

Benjamin Ebo Haizel who has been assigned the role as Engineering Manager at Adamus Resources Limited Nzema Mine Prior to his current role, Ing. Benjamin Ebo Haizel worked as the Plant Maintenance Superintendent at TEX-Mining. Benjamin has over 17years experience in the industry with emphasis in plant housekeeping and safety, installations, maintenance, inspections, repair, and testing of all plant equipment (including pumps, mills, gyratory crusher, gearbox, conveyors, agitators, etc.). The 1st WAIMM (West African Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum) Geology, Exploration and Mining Conference (GEM) 2024 hosted professionals from the mining and petroleum industry, finance and investment institutions, banking, regulatory institutions, professional bodies, students, universities offering engineering, mining and geoscience programs at the Lancaster Accra on 10th September 2024. The just ended GEM2024 conference which was held under the theme - "Finding the Next Big Elephant - Harnessing the Power of AI and Technological Advancement in Mineral Exploration and Mining Given the current state of Global Exploration and Investment Trends" discussed the importance of harnessing advancement in technology and A1 to bridge gaps in data capture and other indices in order to accelerate the exploration and development of both green and brownfield mineral properties. Other areas discussed during the conference included the industrial, critical and green minerals revolution, mine haulage critical factors and financing operations, ESG and Sustainability, the latest development in industry practices and operations, innovation and technological solutions to solve industry challenges and knowledge sharing with experts and both local and international consultants.
