🥳🎊Thank you for joining our educative webinar yesterday! It was a pleasure to have approximately 40 young people across Africa come together to discuss the ongoing Galamsey issue and explore possible solutions. Here are some key takeaways from the session: 1. Youth Advocacy: Young people adding their voices to demonstrate for the repeal of LI 2462 has yielded positive results, with the full repeal still in process. 2. Long-Term Solutions: The government should consider sustainable long-term strategies, rather than short-term military interventions, to halt Galamsey. 3. Community Awareness: Youth should work to raise awareness, especially in areas affected by Galamsey, to help local communities understand the consequences of their actions today. 4. International Impacts: The Galamsey menace may affect Ghana’s standing in COP discussions, as our treaties contradict mining in forest reserves. 5. Environmental Impact: Mining in forest zones is taking a toll on Ghana's REDD+ commitments. 6. Youth Capacity: Young people have the power to push for change and contribute to restoration and reclamation efforts. 7. Climate Finance: Climate finance grants should support reclamation and conservation initiatives.
