For Atlanta’s Solomon Fesshaye, "Sound is an organization of love temporally crystallized."

"Star City" is Fesshaye's first single on Ghostly International. The melody — a bright, expressive yet straightforward synth pattern — dates back to 2014. After seeking the therapy of dance clubs in New York City, the producer dusted it off and revamped the sequence into a pulsing track indebted to that backdrop of ephemeral bliss.

The music video (“an attempt at a neo-John Hughes montage combined with a hypnotic representation of New York's new youth”), directed by Fesshaye and Jango Godette, shows two of his dear friends, Naomi and Paul, floating through New York on their skateboards. They are seemingly alone in the city, as the scenes of a locked-down 2020 Midtown surround; their attention suspends on the singular action, gently hinting at a pure and innocent love.

In Ghostly’s first video chat with Fesshaye, we found him nursing a broken ankle from the shoot, the result of an unfortunate pothole that kept him from his beloved surfing but allowed him to finish the tunes he was working on at home.

The digital b-side, “Save Our Place,” builds a similar sense of release, with arpeggiated chimes and percussive claps all climbing towards a freefall in the final minute. Taken together, the tracks make for a potent one-two label debut.
