Building Inclusive Cultures That Thrive

About us

We are all about building cultures that empower EVERYONE to thrive. Over the years we have seen the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging (DEIB) movement evolve from being a legal requirement to something that is becoming a part of the DNA in organisations that really value their greatest assets - their people. However, the dial has not shifted as much as we would like to see. WHY IS THAT? Well, we believe that we’ve not concentrated enough on building workplace cultures where trust is strong and people feel psychologically safe. Therefore, we are on a mission to help businesses to build those cultures. Cultures where everyone: ✅ can have a great people experience, ✅ love where they work, ✅ feel like they truly belong and ✅ become the best version of themselves. SO HOW DO WE DO THIS? Well, we promote human connections through our range of talks, training and coaching sessions. We bring our lived experience to these sessions, of what it feels like to belong and then not belong as we navigated Sophie’s transition together. We couple this with practical advice on what you can do if your culture is not as inclusive as you’d like it to be. Sessions include:- ✳️ Thought-Provoking Talks ‘All Things Trans – Ask Anything’, ‘Why Does Belonging Matter to Businesses? ✳️ Group Coaching ‘The Memorable Manager’ – leveraging the power of psychological safety to build inclusive teams enabling your workplace culture to thrive ✳️ Mental Health Training ‘Mental Health First Aider (MHFA)’, ‘MHFA Refresher’ and ‘Become Mental Health Aware’ ✳️ 1:1 Coaching ‘Culture Coaching’ and ‘Transitions Coaching’ ✳️ Workshops ‘Living Your Values As A Team’, ‘Culture – Setting Your Team Up For Success’ WHY ARE INCLUSIVE CULTURES IMPORTANT? If you work with us you’ll not only develop a brand that people want to work for. Not just that but you’ll build a culture where your people are: ✅ more confident, ✅ more engaged, ✅ more productive and ✅ more innovative!

It's International Pronouns Day there are loads of posts out there today. I wanted to share this one from Alan Albert O'Neill ACIPD who is a fellow member of ProudHR

It’s the third Wednesday of October, which means it’s #InternationalPronounsDay. This day was first introduced in 2018 to raise awareness about the importance of respecting and using correct pronouns, as a basic way to show respect for others. While common in #LGBTQIAplus safe spaces, it’s not yet common enough, so I choose to highlight this day of recognition and education to emphasise the importance of acknowledging individuals' identities through the appropriate use of gendered, non-gendered, or non-binary pronouns. You might be familiar with pronouns like He, She, or They, but did you know there are nine different types of pronouns? Promoting the use of correct language is another way organisations can genuinely foster an inclusive environment. Here are a few simple ways we, as people professionals, can encourage this in the workplace: ✊🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️Arrange training to help people understand the significance of pronouns. ✊🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️Encourage staff to include their pronouns in email signatures, making it easier for others to feel comfortable sharing theirs. ✊🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️In meetings, ask everyone to share their pronouns as part of the introductions. Some would actually find this more engaging than the usual small talk about the weather. It’s also a great practice during interviews, especially if you’re involved in the hiring process. These are just a few simple ways to show genuine commitment and avoid merely paying lip service. However, it’s not just about using the right pronouns, it’s about understanding why they matter. Comment below if you have any other suggestions and click the link below for a beginner’s guide to pronouns, shared by Stonewall 👇 https://lnkd.in/ecAS4fBH #HR #People #Inclusion #Pronouns #Identity #GenderIdentity #InclusiveLanguage

Well, I delivered my first 'Become Mental Health Aware' session last week, you can imagine that I was feeling anxious beforehand but all things considered it turned out well. Don't take my word for it though, check out some feedback below. If you follow me you'll probably have seen me banging on about the fact that it's great for everyone, it's only half a day, it's online, it's only £125.00 per person. If you want a space on one of my Thursday morning sessions let me know. If you'd like to run an in-house group session then I'd be happy to discuss. Looking forward to hearing from you. Sophie 💜

I used to keep myself off the radar. I used to shy away from talking about my experience. Why? Well, there is just so much in the way of anti-trans narrative that it presented risks both mentally and physically. However, once I decided to try and make a difference, try to raise awareness, to try to connect with people on a human to human level I had no option than to take that risk. So, here I am saying if you want to meet someone transgender, if you want to understand more about what that experience is like, what challenges it presents on a daily basis then I'm ready to put myself out there. DM me if you are looking for someone to speak to your organisation 🏳️⚧️Transgender Awareness Week 13-19th November 🏳️⚧️ #transgender #DEIB #BelongingMatters #InclusiveCultures #MHFA

🏳️⚧️ TRANSGENDER AWARENESS WEEK 🏳️⚧️ 13-19th November 2024 We know that not everyone knows someone transgender. We also know that fear grows where uncertainty exists. As Sophie Wood always says 'I'm a human being and that is all you are too'. It's for this reason we've put together a session 🏳️⚧️ 'ALL THINGS TRANS - ASK ANYTHING' 🏳️⚧️ The session aims to de-mystify the subject and give you (your audience) the chance to:- 🩵 meet someone transgender, 🩷 find out more about the transgender experience and 🤍 ask anything in a protected space. 🤗 Danielle Wood facilitates the session that is designed to explore Sophie Wood’s lived experience of gender transition male to female. Following an informal chat with Sophie about her personal journey and how that impacts on her life we then encourage attendees to ‘Ask Anything’ so that a greater level of understanding is achieved. Questions are welcomed on the day and in advance to ensure attendees get the most out of the session. Check out what Sarah (aka Sasi) Venables MCIPD - Co-Chair Hereford & Worcester CIPD Branch had to say below. If you’d like to find our more and/or book a session then all you need to do is DM one of us or email hello@belongingbase.com. We're l👀king forward to hearing from you 😊😊😊 #InclusiveCultures #BelongingMatters #BecomeMentalHealthAware #DEIB
