Open Channel: Tell Us What You Thought of Deadpool & Wolverine

After six years, was seeing Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman together on the big screen (again) worth the wait?

The wait between Deadpool 2 in 2018 and a third installment was longer than anyone was probably expecting, what with the Disney/Fox acquisition and figuring out what to do with Fox’s various films in production. But after six years and several assurances that it would be as R-rated as the first two, Deadpool & Wolverine is out in theaters, and it’s got a lot going on, for better and worse.

For the most part, it has fairly positive reviews. But those that don’t like it either really don’t like it or approach the film with some resignation. In some ways, the movie already won once it revealed it was bringing back Hugh Jackman as Wolverine after Logan put a button on things back in 2017. And while Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are getting good marks for their performances and banter, it’s other parts of the movie that are catching criticism. The much touted fan service featuring appearances from previous actors isn’t working for everybody, ditto the humor (which, to be fair, has always been a critique of these movies) and its callbacks to the MCU and Fox’s decades-long Marvel era.

Deadpool & Wolverine had a lot riding on it up to release; the last two MCU phases have been erratic, to the point that this is actually the only Marvel Studios movie for the entire year. For many, this has done its job in restarting the megafranchise and for others, it’s just another sign of its impending decline and continued proof that the Multiverse Saga is a dud. The movie seems on track to make a billion dollars when all’s said and done, but it’ll take time to determine its overall impact on the MCU and the superhero scene in general.

But until then, we want to know what you thought of the movie. Loved it, hated it, felt underwhelmed? Let us know all your thoughts in the comments down below.
