Set atop the cliffs of Santorini, Villa Aegean - Mandarin Oriental’s unique endeavor in Greece and the 26th address of the Mandarin Oriental Exceptional Homes chain - emerges as a seamless extension of the island’s dramatic landscape, a place where tradition and modernity intertwine in effortless harmony. Inspired by the sculpted formations of volcanic rock and the timeless elegance of Santorini’s canaves, Elastic Architects reimagines the island’s architectural language through a bold, contemporary lens. At its core, the villa tells the story of Basalt, a stone born from fire and shaped by time, its evolving textures and hues mirrored in the materiality of the space. Natural tones, weathered stone, and sculpted voids frame an interplay of light and shadow, where sleek lines meet the organic flow of the land. The design echoes the island’s architectural heritage—arches reinterpreted, subterranean retreats reimagined, and black stone accents grounding the villa in its volcanic terrain.
