Where does the plastic you clean from the seas actually end up? It's the most common question we've received in the last 5 years of working with fishing communities to clean up the seas from plastics. Now, we have something totally unique to answer! We are proud to announce that together with the Portuguese company Nelo, we were able to create kayaks with the plastic we collect from the sea. Each kayak, has a built-in QR code, where with blockchain technology, everyone can see where the plastic was collected, recycled, where it became a product, how much CO2 was saved (!) through the process, as well as photos and videos of the fishers who participated in this initiative. This year, on World Oceans Day, #Enaleia had a double celebration! We proudly announce that since the start of our marine clean-up activities, we've collected over 1.150.000 kilos of plastic from the seas, starting in Greece and expanding to Egypt, Spain, Italy, and Kenya. Remarkably, half of this was collected in the last 12 months! AND! For the first time in the Mediterranean, we've designed a product made from these plastics that can last for decades and help clean even more plastic from the seas. In collaboration with the Portuguese company Nelo, we introduce the first ocean kayak, the Enaleia x Nelo kayak! After 3 years of trials and checks, this modern racing kayak for all enthusiasts is created from recycled plastics, including those collected from the sea. Each kayak features a QR code, allowing users to trace the journey of the plastics from sea to factory to final product!
