Good Design Yearbook 2023-2024 | Available for orders! From a "city to a spoon", GOOD DESIGN annually showcases and awards new consumer / industrial products and graphic designs that distinguish for their design excellence, technological innovation, sustainability or high aesthetic, under the auspices of The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. The trademarked and prestigious Awards Program was founded back in 1950 in Chicago by the former MoMA curator Edgar Kaufmann Jr. and other pioneers in modern design, such as Charles and Ray Eames, Russel Wright, George Nelson, and Eero Saarinen. The program was - and has been ever since - an annual tribute to the achievements of the best industrial and graphic designers, and world manufacturers, an honorary for their pursuit of extraordinary design excellence. Chicago designer Mort Goldsholl designed the GOOD DESIGN logo the same year the Program was founded. This distinctive logo is still used globally by winning companies to publicly announce that their products and designs have met the most strident and professional criteria, the highest standards that GOOD DESIGN stands for. NOTE: The edition includes a tribute to Paolo Pininfarina, the internationally celebrated Italian engineer, designer, and businessman, and famous head of Pininfarina SpA (short for Carrozzeria Pininfarina,) as the winner of American Prize for Design 2024. Metropolitan Arts Press Ltd. (MAP) is the registered title of the publication house organized by the European Centre for Architecture Design and Urban Studies in collaboration with the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. With a history of 30 years of publishing, MAP continues to thrive in the Art & Design Publishing world. Our publications include annual award catalogs, art exhibition catalogs, tribute books on art, design, and architecture, along with selected poetry collections and literature works. As the world of publishing keeps changing, we stand on the idea of creating an online store that not only provides easy access to all the participants in our annual award programs to order the catalogues, which include their projects but also to introduce to the public, distinctive titles and tribute publications, along with a great list of products that our audience will enjoy through our Good Design® program. Our goal is to offer unlimited online possibilities for our visitors to have access to products that are remarkably well designed. And that is what makes MAP special. Moreover, our GOOD DESIGN started as a partnership between the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Merchandise Mart in Chicago and has continued till the present day by The Chicago Athenaeum evolving year by year. It was the first time that an art museum and a wholesale merchandising center joined forces to present “the best new examples in modern design in home furnishings.” Each year, a different prestigious designer was selected to curate the installation.
