🚨New Blog Post on the Lack of Clothes Distribution in the Samos CCAC🚨 We met with our Project Manager to discuss one of the most significant obstacles to dignity and human rights for people on the move in Samos: the need for clothing distribution. While the Greek government and CCAC authorities fail to meet their human rights obligations, NGOs have to step in to fill the gaps. 🛑 We call on the Greek Government and CCAC authorities to - Implement comprehensive plans to meet their obligations - Ensure consistent, fair, and sufficient distribution of clothes, hygiene items, cash assistance, food, accommodation, and special needs services. As a signatory, we supported the open letter to Ursula von der Leyen and the European Commission, urgently demanding that they "change course and end your war on migrants." Drafted by Equinox: Racial Justice Initiative, Greek Forum of Migrants, International Women* Space, and Movement for Asylum Seekers in Ireland, we, alongside over 79 migrant-led organizations and 120+ supporters, condemn the violent, punitive, and immoral turn in recent European migration politics. With the increase of restrictive and inhumane reception and detention centers across Europe, off-shoring systems, and the targeted use of AI and technology at the border, we see a 'war' taken against people seeking safety. In the open letter, we demand: - Safe and legal routes for migrants, asylum seekers and refugees; - Pathways to regularisation and an end to the criminalization of people on the move; - Address the root causes of why people flee their countries, including by ending EU investment in the militarization and securitization of borders, the weapons trade, fossil fuels, and other industrial strategies contributing to conflict and climate degradation in the global South; - Policies that focus on addressing the needs of all people (including migrants, shift and gig economy workers, unpaid carers, and those in precarious work) instead of prioritizing corporate profits; - A comprehensive economic and social strategy for everyone living in Europe.
