  • Xuxa Lowe is grateful for the opportunity to have attended the 18th Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. She participated in technical sessions and exhibited products from Guyana as a representative of Women’s Agro-processors Development under the umbrella of the Caribbean Network of Rural Women Producers (CANROP). #CWA is the Region’s premier agriculture event which features workshops, seminars and a trade show coordinated by partners in regional agriculture. The main objective of CWA 2024 was to highlight and coordinate efforts towards accelerating climate-smart mitigation and adaptative measures to reduce climatic impacts on food production systems. CWA 2024 was the 18th edition of this event.

  • Teesha Mangra-Singh, Chair of the CARICOM Youth Advisory Body, was in St. Vincent and the Grenadines earlier this month for the Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) 2024. Ms. Mangra-Singh sat down with the CARICOM Communications team for a wide-ranging interview during which she explained why – as the Region moves to reduce its food import bill and improve food and nutrition security - there is a concerted effort now to cultivate nontraditional crops. The CARICOM Youth Advisory Body was established by the Special Ministerial Task Force on Food Production and Food Security to promote and articulate strategies towards greater youth involvement in the sector on fostering a supportive mechanism for greater youth involvement in agriculture in CARICOM. The Body provides advice and recommendations to the Ministerial Taskforce on regional youth involvement to support the achievement of the reduction of imports by 25% by the year 2025.    #CWA is the Region’s premier agriculture event which features workshops, seminars and a trade show coordinated by partners in regional agriculture. The main objective of #CWA2024 was to highlight and coordinate efforts towards accelerating climate-smart mitigation and adaptative measures to reduce climatic impacts on food production systems. CWA 2024 was the 18th edition

Statement from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on the Differences between the TPC President and the Prime Minister of Haiti The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is deeply concerned by the ongoing differences being played out in public between the President of the Transitional Presidential Council (TPC) and the Prime Minister of Haiti. This growing lack of cohesion imperils the transitional process based on the spirit and the principles of compromise, consensus and inclusiveness set out in the Political Agreement of 11 March 2024 in Jamaica and the Political Accord of 3 April 2024 drawn up by the Haitian stakeholders. This unseemly and distracting conflict is taking place at a time when the insecurity and humanitarian crises are deteriorating gravely. This is further deepening and prolonging the despair of the Haitian people seeking a glimmer of hope and relief. These differences between the leaders of the executive also undermine confidence among Haiti’s partners and the wider international community, impeding the provision of the critical assistance that Haiti urgently requires to address and overcome the complex crisis in which it is presently mired. This perilous moment in time calls for cohesiveness and joint focus in addressing the many challenges that obstruct the search for stability and progress towards the objectives of the transition. • The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is participating in the 16th Conference of Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, #COP16, underway in Cali, Colombia. On Friday 25 October, at a side event of Latin America and the Caribbean delegates, conversations focused on regional challenges for technical and scientific cooperation. COP16, which is being held under the theme ‘Peace with Nature’, is the first meeting of the Conference of Parties following the adoption of the KMGBF in 2022. As focus now turns to implementation, Governments will review the progress made in translating the global framework into national strategies and plans. #CARICOMATCOP16 #PeaceWithNature #COP16Colombia
