[High-throughput measurement of elastic moduli of microfibers by rope coiling] Professor Anderson H.C. Shum and his team, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering (HKU), have collaborated with scientists Professor Howard A. Stone, Dr. Janine K. Nunes (both from Princeton University) and Dr. Jack Lo (KFUPM) to develop a novel and promising method for assessing the flexibility of elastic microfibers at high throughput. The research was recently published in the prestigious scientific journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) in March 2024. Details of the publication: “High-throughput measurement of elastic moduli of microfibers by rope coiling” Yuan Liu, Jack H. Y. Lo, Janine K. Nunes, Howard A. [Structure-Switching Electrochemical Aptasensor for Rapid, Reagentless, and Single-Step Nanomolar Detection of C-Reactive Protein] A team composed of ABIC’s Dr. William Whitehouse, Dr. Louisa Lo, together with Dr. Andrew Kinghorn and Dr. Simon Shiu from the School of Biomedical Science of HKU, led by Prof. Julian Tanner, released a publication in #ACS Publications, reporting the development of an electrochemical biosensor using redox probe-tagged DNA aptamers, functionalized onto inexpensive, commercially available screen-printed electrodes. Previously, clinical turn-around times for established CRP detection methods take between 30 min to hours or even days from centralized laboratories. However, with a binding-induced conformational switching of the CRP-targeting aptamer, a specific and selective signal-ON event, which enables single-step and reagentless detection of CRP in as little as 1 min, can be induced. The team hopes to inspire further investigations into the suitability of aptamer based biosensors for diagnostics, which will aid translational R&D toward fully realized devices aimed at point-of-care applications or for broader use by the public. The CRP sensing method described herein has been filed for a US provisional application 63/597,706. https://lnkd.in/gkzhzirA #ABIC #Innovation #BiomedicalTechnology #Aptasensor #CReactiveProtein #Biomaterials
