Global law firm Dentons has made its latest push into Southeast Asia with plans to combine with Thai counterpart Pisut & Partners under the name “Dentons Pisut”, and a launch is expected in the coming months subject to partner approval and the integration of workstreams. Wayu Suthisarnsuntorn of Pisut & Partners in Bangkok, told Asia Business Law Journal that his firm had already been working with multiple offices of Dentons around the world on various cross-border transactions, and global and regional M&A deals during the past several years. Pisut Rakwong of Pisut & Partners said, “Our clients will gain expanded access to global expertise and cross-border capabilities." Korean firm DLG sets up Bangkok JV in first for Thailand https://lnkd.in/g_UKFPWy South Korea’s DLG Law Corporation and AP Law Office in Bangkok have established a joint venture called DLG & AP, which is the first Korean law firm JV in Thailand, say both firms. Won H. Cho of DLG, told Asia Business Law Journal that his firm chose to establish the JV because they believed it would enable the provision of one-stop services for both advisory and litigation matters. AP has been an affiliate litigation firm with DLG since last year and its managing partner, Apiwat Narkchamnun, will serve as the inaugural managing partner of DLG & AP. Narkchamnun will lead the joint venture law firm’s litigation and arbitration matters, while lawyers from DLG will handle corporate advisory services. BVI premier targets Asia markets, China business https://lnkd.in/gFFg33v7 British Virgin Islands Premier Natalio Wheatley has doubled down on efforts to maintain an active investment stream from Greater China, while moving in quickly to secure new growth sources in Asia amid geopolitical uncertainties. Wheatley, also the BVI Finance, Financial Services and Trade Minister, visited the Law.asia office on 17 February as he led a delegation on an Asia-Pacific tour. Wheatley has said he wants to further deepen the BVI’s engagement with Shenzhen, pointing out that the relationship with the city pertains to their interests in technology, artificial intelligence and electric vehicles, which the Chinese tech hub is well known for. Wheatley also singled out India and Asean as high potential targets for strategic partnerships to promote BVI business. The BVI premier told Law.asia that his government sought to enter into co-operation agreements with those financial centres, formalising complementary partnerships that would allow for mutual benefit. But even as the British Virgin Islands doubles down on new targets for regional expansion, Greater China remains the core of its regional operations. The General Counsels' Association of India (GCAI) recently hosted a challenging dialogue themed “Rethink, Redefine, Re-evolve: The Legal Profession in India” in New Delhi. Speakers at the event at the India International Centre included the Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal. The event aimed to address how this integration would shape the future of the Indian legal ecosystem.
