BGIS’ latest award-winning innovation was created by Scott Thomas, our Handy Person at Perth Stadium (known as Optus Stadium) who took on the challenge of finding a safer, more efficient way to move heavy seats, one that would reduce the physical strain on the team and minimise the potential for injury. BGIS operates Perth Stadium and prepares the stadium for sporting and entertainment events to ensure a safe, efficient and enjoyable experience for patrons. Safety is a top priority but behind the scenes, preparing for these events can involve challenging tasks that pose significant risks to our team. One such task is the removal and repositioning of heavy seating rows to accommodate different event needs. This process was cumbersome, requiring several staff members to navigate the seating up and down stadium steps. The risk of manual handling injuries, slips, trips, and pinch points was high, making the task both difficult and dangerous. Introducing the Super Stair Destroyer, a simple yet ingenious tool that transforms how stadium seating is moved. This tri-wheel device is bolted to the bottom of the seating rows, allowing them to glide smoothly up and down the steps, with the wheels bearing most of the weight. What once required multiple staff members can now be managed by just one, with minimal physical exertion. Access the video via this link – https://lnkd.in/ggC7pm9a

Congratulations to our Australian Government Department of Defence account team for winning the Security and Estate Group 2024 Base Services Innovation of the Year award. BGIS was recognised for the implementation of Cresstec - REED HVAC-R, a retrofittable, refrigerant management, energy saving technology for commercial HVAC and refrigerant equipment. The technology utilises artificial intelligence for refrigerant management and was applied to the built environment on our client’s estate at RAAF Base Richmond. “BGIS completed a 15-month trial of REED which achieved an enormous average energy saving of 40.05%. That’s an annual reduction of 25 megawatts hours of electricity consumption, and over 20 tonnes of carbon emissions,” said Matthew Smith, General Manager, Integrated Services, Defence and Head of Innovation. “We foresee significant national scale benefits including environmental, sustainable, cost savings, and equipment longevity.” For further information on our defence services visit - https://lnkd.in/gS6NChsY L to r: Matthew Smith, Michelle Dixon BA LLB GAICD, Dana Nelson, Tom Haszard, Karla Duroy

To mark Remembrance Day and pay respect to all veterans, including those employed by BGIS, our EMOS team has prepared the grounds and memorial gardens across the estates to ensure they are pristine for commemorative services that honour past and present veterans. At Singleton Miliary Area poppies have been painted at the front entrances of the base. At Williamtown, Remembrance Day banners have been erected at the entrance and poppies placed outside the Len Water Building and Army, Air Force Canteen Services. The purple poppy featured is a symbol of remembrance for animals that served during wartime. As in previous years, BGIS and Defence plated vehicles have been fitted with commemorative poppies purchased from the Australian War Memorial. “BGIS is privileged to be a part of this significant day, which honours the sacrifice of those who have served and died in conflict,” said Tom Haszard, Account Director, Defence.
