Excellent fireside chat yesterday evening with Christopher Voss, author of Never Split the Difference and world leading #negotiation expert, arranged by HBS Club of the GCC. I studied negotiation at Harvard Law School in 2012 and I have taught negotiation theory globally since then. I absolutely love the empathy focused approach Chris uses in negotiation which resonates with where I started my training journey in NLP. There were many excellent take aways from the session. Here are just a few: There is a deep human need to be heard. Many people underestimate this. Culture is a problem when you think yours is the right one. Hostage negotiators are successful 93% of the time. That means 7% of the time there is no deal. Identify the 7%ers; they either mean to do you harm or waste your time. Merely by showing empathy and recognising it, you get to a deal [14X] faster.
