This week, #GCCHK was invited to participate in the Chief Executive’s briefing session on the 2024 Policy Address. We welcome the strong emphasis on economic development, increasing people’s livelihoods, and retaining Hong Kong’s essential role as an international city. To that end, new measures aimed at enhancing the city’s attractiveness as an eco-friendly tourism destination and showcasing its arts and culture scene are particularly appreciated. Our chamber also supports the “Study in Hong Kong” initiative that aims to show the city’s world-class academic institutions to a wider audience. For all these initiatives, our chamber stresses that, while the city is successfully forging new partnerships across the wider region, its existing friends in the German business community have proved themselves reliable partners over many decades. Our members cherish the strong ties that bind them to Hong Kong and are confident these will not weaken. #hongkong #germanchamber #policyaddress #hkpolicyaddress2024

As we engage with members of our diverse and dynamic business community, we are constantly reminded that there is a lot more to Hong Kong than meets the eye. And there are arguably few better examples for this than our long-time member, German watchmaker Tutima GmbH: our President Johannes Hack and Chamber Director Karen Choi recently had the pleasure of visiting Tutima’s assembly workshop, one of only very few remaining in Hong Kong. A true German “Traditionsunternehmen”, Tutima was founded in Glashütte, Saxony, in 1927. The company manufactures and distributes high grade professional time instruments, including pilot watches, sport watches, and dress watches. Tutima (H.K.) Limited commenced business in the late 1970s and has been a member of #GCCHK since 1989. Based in Chai Wan, Tutima specialises in the design, assembly, and worldwide distribution of quartz watches with the highest standard of quality and precision. Many thanks to Mr Dieter Delecate, CEO, and Mr Wilhelm Goetz, Managing Director, for allowing us to take an exclusive peek behind the scenes of their watch workshop, and for Tutima’s dedication and commitment to our chamber for 35 years! 🤝 #GCCHK #Tutima #MeetOurMembers #GermanyinHK

Today our President Johannes Hack and Director of Chamber Services Karen Choi had the opportunity to visit one of our longest-standing member companies, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics. Hellmann has been making significant contributions to the German business community in Hong Kong over nearly four decades, not only as an active member of #GCCHK since 1986 but also as a valued training company under the Dual System Professional Training programme coordinated by German Industry and Commerce Ltd. Hong Kong. Hellmann has successfully trained many young talents in the “Transport and Logistics Management Assistant” profession over the years, and just showed their outstanding commitment to training excellence as a Gold Sponsor of the programme’s 40th anniversary celebration earlier this summer. Special thanks to John Cheng, Managing Director, and Arthur Lim, Head of HR for Hong Kong and South China, for the warm welcome and the insightful exchange. Thank you to everyone who joined the Climate Resilience and Adaptation: A Dialogue with Financial Industry Leaders hosted by Deloitte China at our Pacific Place offices in Hong Kong last week. Organised by the The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and Macao and its Green & Circular Economy Committee, and supported by the German Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong (GCC) and The European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, with Deloitte China as venue sponsor, participants shared valuable insights on how all stakeholders in the Hong Kong business community can strive towards a more resilient, sustainable future together. The opening remarks were delivered by Francesco Nagari, Deloitte China Hong Kong Financial Services Industry leader. Francesco’s introduction was followed by the first panel session, which explored risks and opportunities that climate change poses to the financial sector and gave insights on the best practices for institutions to enhance their resilience strategies and adaptability by tapping the expanding sources of green finance across banks, insurers and fund managers. In the second panel, participants explored how companies are aligning climate risks with ESG goals, particularly in the context of achieving net zero commitments and focusing on their investments while fostering resilience, sustainability and climate-related disclosures. This panel gave a very clear perspective on the demand for green finance that different sectors of the Hong Kong and global economy have. Thank you to all the moderators and panellists for sharing your professional insights on these important topics.
