We are delighted to announce that Hapag-Lloyd AG has selected IQAX eBL to issue electronic bills of lading (eBL) over GSBN's infrastructure. Working closely with Hapag-Lloyd AG and the Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA), the data exchanged via APIs will be compliant with the latest version of the DCSA eBL API (version 3.0). This collaboration not only enables Hapag-Lloyd to achieve their goal of 100% eBL adoption by 2030 but also opens up new opportunities in the future. With the exponential growth of eBLs issued over GSBN's blockchain network, we are exploring additional use cases with commercial banks and the tokenisation of eBLs for trade finance. Congratulations to Hapag-Lloyd AG-Lloyd and our partners for their commitment to paperless trade! #DigitalTransformation #eBL #ShippingIndustry

The Belt and Road Summit 2024, held in Hong Kong this week, brought together key experts and leaders along and beyond the Belt and Road to exchange insights on multilateral cooperation and explore the future of connectivity. This year's edition of the Belt and Road Summit focuses on the theme of building a connected, innovative, and green Belt and Road. During the session “Multi-dimensional Connectivity under the Belt and Road Initiative,” our CEO Bertrand Chen highlighted the challenges and opportunities of global trade amidst an increasingly complex environment driven by volatility, geopolitics-led supply chain reconfiguration and e-commerce induced changing consumer patterns. He particularly highlighted the transformative potential of electronic Bills of Lading – facilitating smoother shipping process and fostering trust between all parties involved in global trade. These innovations are poised to not only optimise existing operations and make them more resilient but also enable new differentiated services for the end customers. #GSBN #BeltandRoadSummit #GlobalTrade #TradeInnovation #eBL

Pleased to share that GSBN has officially joined Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA)'s Project Ensemble, in collaboration with Ant Digital Technologies to explore eBL tokenisation for trade finance. Under this initiative, we have also conducted interbank atomic settlement of tokenised deposits between HSBC and Hang Seng Bank. The Project Ensemble is set to encourage use cases to build innovative financial market infrastructure that enables the settlement of tokenised money and real-world assets via a wholesale Central Bank Digital Currency (wCBDC). As part of the journey, eBLs are issued over GSBN’s blockchain infrastructure, unlocking new avenues in trade finance and demonstrating the value of RWA tokenisation. Our CEO Bertrand Chen shared that the participation in Project Ensemble marks a significant milestone in GSBN’s mission to modernize global trade and bolster the resilience of the global economy by advancing eBL tokenisation. This recent progress underscores the rapid expansion of our network and showcases the potential for tokenized eBL to drive a digitally-led global trade ecosystem, unlocking alternative resources of financing and paving the way to the securitization of the world’s $25 trillion trade flows and global trade finance gap. Our study with Sia Partners suggests that transitioning to eBLs could slash CO2e emissions by 440,820 metric tonnes annually. That is why we have been advocating for the adoption of eBLs, a one-to-one digital representation for each shipment, fostering enhanced data sharing and facilitating carbon footprint assessments. Our CEO Bertrand Chen recently explored the indirect but potentially more important impact of the adoption of eBL for the decarbonisation of the shipping industry in his latest piece “What NVIDIA can teach us about shipping transition to net zero?” in the August issue of Port Technology International - PTI. The piece draws parallels between NVIDIA's transformative impact in High Performance Computing and now in Gen AI with their CUDA framework, which allowed the emergence of an ecosystem of developers to focus on training models, instead of focusing on programming GPUs, and the shipping industry's ecosystem transition towards net-zero emissions which needs to be enabled by the authorised sharing of granular shipping data at scale. From eBLs to green balance mechanisms, we believe the sector is gearing up for a sustainable future, powered by alternative fuels, economic incentives for Carriers and more transparent data sharing enabled by eBLs. The Dishui Lake International Shipping Service Innovation Conference held in Shanghai on July 8th, gathered key experts and leaders in the shipping industry to exchange their views on the theme of “Digitalisation and Decarbonisation : Empowering Shipping for a Shared Futures”. In his keynote speech, our CEO Bertrand Chen shared the fundamental value proposition of electric bill of lading (eBL), key recent milestones driving the widespread adoption of eBL, the unique selling points of IQAX eBL and GSBN’s own roadmap to enable eBL adoption. During the forum “Promote Cross-border Flow of Shipping Data and Paperless Trade”, we were pleased to convene a panel composed of representatives from customers, banks, shipping company and eBL solution provider to have a detailed sharing of their views on eBL benefits and also challenges for adoption. Mr. Zhou from Suzano and Mr. Yang from De Well Group emphasised that security (ensuring eBL is issued to the rightful party), speed of transfer and trustworthiness were key aspects of eBL. They both noted that on those dimensions alone, IQAX eBL already stand head and shoulders above the competition. Mr. Ge from Bank of China Shanghai Branch shared that by adopting eBL their clients would stand to benefit the most for trade finance activities, while Mr. Richard Lee from Standard Chartered China shared the challenges encountered previously where the volume of transactions did not materialise with legacy eBL solutions. They are both looking forward to the market wide adoption of eBL to enable the digitalisation of the trade finance sector. Ms. Afra Guo from COSCO Shipping Lines shared COSCO Group’s digitalisation journey and how the adoption eBL brought great value to the company as well as to their customers. Mr. Lionel Louie from IQAX shared their active collaboration with GSBN and other solution providers to address the issue of interoperability. He also expanded on the product roadmap of IQAX eBL, which will extend upstream and downstream to support more shipping process and other trade documents/processes. Congratulations to the organisers of the Dishui Lake International Shipping Service Innovation Conference! We will certainly be back. We are grateful for the opportunity to meet key stakeholders in the industry and GSBN will continue to work with partners, including COSCO Shipping, A.P. Moller - Maersk, BIMCO, International Chamber of Commerce, Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) to accelerate the eBL adoption and the digital transformation of shipping industry. #eBL#Blockchain #DigitalTransformation #PaperlessTrade #Decarbonisation

After a successful pilot we presented in Antwerp at SMDG - Ship Message Design Group, it was our turn to welcome Dirk Vande Velde and See Jack from MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company in Shanghai for a workshop with COSCO Shipping Lines. Both companies are very much aware of the importance today of supply chain risk assessment requirements in order to establish agile risk-management practices and to reap the benefits afforded by digitalisation. In an increasingly volatile, uncertain, and dynamic risk environment, managers at shipping lines should not get bogged down in excessive bureaucracy, but take advantage of established new technologies such as what we are offering at GSBN, while increasing the safety in the logistics & supply chain and driving better customer experience. Thank you very much to Dirk and Jack for traveling all the way to Shanghai. Thank you to WuYu, and the extended COSCO Shipping Lines team for hosting us for very productive sessions, and treating us to a delicious dinner with an incredible view of the Shanghai skyline. We are now energized by those conversations and ready to execute the next steps of this important collaboration to increase the safety of shipping critical cargo such as Lithium Batteries. #SafeTransportationCertificate #Collaboration #DataSharing #Blockchain #LithiumBattery #RiskManagement
