The Hong Kong Green Building Council Limited (HKGBC) is a non-profit, member led organisation established in 2009 which strives to promote the standards and developments of sustainable buildings in Hong Kong. The HKGBC aims to raise green building awareness by engaging the public, the industry and the government, and to develop practical solutions for Hong Kong’s unique, subtropical built environment of high-rise, high density urban area, leading Hong Kong to become a world’s exemplar of green building development. Our passion for a sustainable built environment is the motivating force to achieve our goals. The wide experience and deep insight of our members and experts is the underlying foundation for real results.   • [🍀HKGBC’s Participation at Eco Expo Asia 2024] The highly anticipated Eco Expo Asia 2024 has been launched at AsiaWorld-Expo from 30 Oct to 2 Nov! The #HKGBC hosted a session themed “𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 & 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲” today (1 Nov) at the Eco Asia Conference and showcased information on green building industry at the fair, receiving positive feedback from attendees and visitors. 👏🏻 In the HKGBC session, esteemed speakers, including Ir Dr Wang Hei Bruce Chong, Arup, Mr Fung Eddie, Nanofil Filtration Technology Ltd., Mr Travis Kan, Schneider Electric (Hong Kong) Limited, Mr Howard Lee, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and Ir Dr Conrad Wong, Yau Lee Holdings Limited, provided a comprehensive overview of Hong Kong's green technology landscape, highlighting the latest advancements and applications in infrastructure and buildings. The session was concluded with a panel discussion moderated by Ir Harry Lai, BBS, Executive Director of HKGBC, offering insights into establishing Hong Kong as a global green tech powerhouse. In addition, the HKGBC booth at the fair showcased the Council’s initiatives aimed at fostering a greener built environment and achieving carbon neutrality. Initiatives including BEAM Plus and its Global Version, HKGBC Climate Change Framework For Built Environment, Zero-Carbon-Ready Building Certification Scheme, Net Zero Energy Building Certification and CIC Green Product Certification Scheme were introduced to Miss Diane WONG Shuk-han, JP, Under Secretary for Environment & Ecology, The Government of the HKSAR, as well as other Government officials, business community and the public. During the ESG Business Exchange organised by iRecycle Charity Foundation, Ir Harry Lai, BBS was delighted to deliver a welcome speech and present certificates to the members of iRecycle Charity Foundation and the panel speakers. The programme facilitated valuable discussions with industry experts on ESG topics and provided insights into the latest green procurement solutions and trends. We were honoured to have Mr David LAM, JP, Under Secretary for Development, The Government of the HKSAR, as our Guest of Honour. 👏🏻   Esteemed speakers and panellists engaged in insightful discussions on strategies to advance green building at the management level, aiming to lead the industry toward carbon neutrality. Let's take a look back at the highlights 🎉:   1️⃣ 𝗕𝗶𝘇-𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 (𝟱 𝗦𝗲𝗽) 👕 The event received overwhelming support from over 220 companies and organisations, achieving an impressive participation of over 280,000. Captain Green Building and Hanson visited the offices of Chinachem Group and Hang Seng Bank to learn about their carbon reduction initiatives.   2️⃣ 𝟰-𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝘇-𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 This year, more than 60 companies and organisations, from Government, commercial, and academic sectors joined the social media challenge, marking a 70% increase from last year. Their involvement showcased a strong dedication to green office culture, earning them well-deserved recognition.🏆   3️⃣ 𝗞𝗶𝗰𝗸-𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 (𝟮𝟭 𝗦𝗲𝗽) Over 100 guests from Government and industry gathered to celebrate the inauguration of this year’s Hong Kong Green Building Week, activating the Green Building Express and uniting in our commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050! ✨   4️⃣ 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗿 (𝟮𝟭-𝟮𝟮 𝗦𝗲𝗽) The inaugural fair attracted nearly 5,000 visitors, who gained valuable insights into the green building lifecycle by engaging with six interactive zones, attending expert talks, and participating in green workshops. 🌱   5️⃣ 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗫 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿 (𝟮𝟭-𝟮𝟮 𝗦𝗲𝗽) During the low-carbon tram journey 🚃, over 150 participants explored ten featured green buildings along the route. The “Green Building Express Snapshot Challenge” also received enthusiastic response, with many capturing stunning photos of the Green Building Express. 👀   6️⃣ 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿 (𝟮𝟴-𝟮𝟵 𝗦𝗲𝗽) 🚩 This year’s Guided Tour continued its popularity once again, attracting more than 400 participants, who ventured into four green buildings, gaining insights into eco-friendly elements and appreciating the beauty of architecture.   • [Member’s News – Sun Hung Kai Properties Releases Sustainability Report for Financial Year 2023/24] Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP) is pleased to announce the release of its 2023/24 Sustainability Report, highlighting the Group's latest Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance and its initiatives during the financial year. In the report, SHKP enhanced its climate-related disclosure by adhering to the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB)’s IFRS S2 principles. SHKP also disclosed its scope 3 emissions from the value chain for the first time. The Group’s sustainability initiatives have earned local and international recognitions, including its debut in the Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index, and the second consecutive year in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook 2024.   • [Member’s News - Swire Properties’ Green Kitchen Initiative Capacity Building Workshop] Launched in 2017, Swire Properties’ Green Kitchen Initiative facilitates sustainability conversations between portfolio management teams and F&B tenants. This Programme encourages collaboration to reduce energy and water usage, as well as improve air quality and waste management. Recently, Swire Properties took a step forward by partnering with Future Green, a F&B sustainability consultancy, to curate two full-day capacity building workshops. The workshops aim to foster best practices and facilitate knowledge sharing about sustainable practices in the F&B sector. The workshop attracted over 60 participants from 11 F&B groups, government agencies, and industry practitioners. Through engaging games and activities, participants gained valuable insights into Swire Properties’ Green Kitchen Initiative framework, which includes fit-out guidelines and strategies for integrating sustainability considerations into F&B outlet’s operations.   • [HKGBC Delegation to Germany (14-18 Oct 2024) – A Green Voyage to the Heart of Germany's #GreenBuilding Movement! ✨]   #HKGBC recently led a 5-day #Delegation to #Berlin and #Hamburg, #Germany, comprising 29 professionals, including HKGBC Directors, Members and Government Representatives.
