The WEMP Foundation recently led a transformative initiative at the Community Living Room operated by The Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon, dedicated to supporting families living in sub-divided units. This event aimed to enrich lives and foster resilience among the younger generation. Dr. Charles Yu, an expert in Applied Psychology and Counselling, shared his invaluable insights on positive parenting, emotional health, and effective communication. His engaging session resonated deeply with attendees, leaving a lasting impact on all participants. During the event, parents and children actively engaged in an interactive exploration of Emo-Vitamin, a gamified emotion card designed to enhance emotional expression and strengthen familial bonds. This activity ignited a sense of unity and connection within the community. In celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the WEMP Foundation extended gestures of warmth and goodwill by sharing traditional mooncakes with the families in attendance. The WEMP Foundation, dedicated to improving the mental well-being of underserved children and youth, has partnered with Hong Kong Adventist Hospital Foundation - Stubbs Road (HKAHF-SR) to launch the “SEN CONNECT” programme. This initiative aims to subsidise diagnostic assessments and multidisciplinary treatments for 1,000 children from low-income families suspected of having Special Educational Needs (SEN). The programme's first phase will provide comprehensive assessments and tailored treatments to children aged 3 to 14, ensuring early intervention during a critical developmental period. Mr Chris Sun, Secretary for Labour and Welfare, highlighted the government’s strong support for the programme, underscoring its significance in delivering timely and appropriate care to vulnerable children. Dr Adrian Cheng, founder of The WEMP Foundation, emphasised the programme's importance: “For underprivileged families in dire need of relevant attention, the programme does not only provide early detection and timely treatment to SEN pupils, giving them a healthier and inclusive growth environment, but can also spare their families and carers of the pain and never-ending anxiety from waiting in the long queues.” Andy Cen, Chief Financial Officer of Hong Kong Adventist Hospital, noted the increasing number of SEN children and the lengthy wait times for public services. HKAHF-SR has committed HK$20 million to subsidise medical expenses, focusing on early identification and intervention to support these children. The WEMP Foundation will work closely with local schools and NGOs to identify children in need, arranging for them to receive assessments and customised treatment plans, including medication, group activities, and specialised therapies, at the newly established Adventist Child and Adolescent Development Center. Believing every child is unique, The WEMP Foundation emphasises that understanding their mental abilities is essential for fostering an inclusive environment where all children can thrive and be happy. #wempfoundation #WEMP #HKAHF #HKAHFstubbs #SENconnect

The Positive Education and Mental Health Promotion Ambassador Programme, co-organised by The WEMP Foundation and City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK ) Positive Education Laboratory, has officially commenced. This initiative, fully funded by WEMP, spans from 2024 to 2026 and offers an accredited opportunity for 800 like-minded teachers and social workers, enabling them to shine brightly in their meaningful roles by nurturing children and youth’s positive thinking and mental health. As of 31st Aug, all the quotas for the first cohort have been filled by teachers and social workers across Hong Kong primary and secondary schools. A Launch Ceremony and Symposium for the Positive Education and Mental Health Promotion Ambassador Programme was held earlier, inviting honourable guests and principals to witness the memorable moment for such a meaningful event. During the Ceremony, they shared their vision on what genuine impact could be brought by the programme.  Dr. the Honourable Ko Wing-man, GBS, JP, member of the Executive Council of HKSAR, reiterated the Education Bureau's commitment to positive education and campus well-being. He encouraged collaboration among government, businesses, and the community to promote student’s positive growth. Mr. Lester Garson Huang, CityUHK Council Chairman, expressed his delight in this collaboration, highlighting the combined research and practical experience of the Positive Education Laboratory and WEMP's multidisciplinary expertise. He emphasised the potential to foster a positive culture in schools and communities, creating a nurturing environment for future generations. Mrs. Jennifer Yu Cheng Ngar-wing, Director of The WEMP Foundation, stressed the importance of mental well-being for sustainable social development. She noted that WEMP shares the responsibility to working with parents and schools to cultivate children's positive thinking and unlock their hidden talents. Professor Lee Chun-sing, CityUHK Provost and Deputy President, praised the Positive Education Laboratory’s decade-long effort in promoting a positive culture. He looked forward to continued success in benefiting students across all educational levels. Professor Sylvia Kwok Lai Yuk-ching, from the Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences, presented survey results indicating that nearly one-third of primary students and up to half of secondary students experience significant levels of depression, anxiety, and stress. The survey also showed that parents' and teachers' emotional stress correlates with student depression levels. We believe this initiative will significantly impact the community by equipping parents, teachers, and students with the tools to foster resilience and positive thinking. Recruitment of latter cohorts shall be released in due course and please stay tuned. #wempfoundation #WEMP #CityU #CityUHK #PositiveEducation #MentalHealthPromotionAmbassador

The "Child's Heart, Listen Together" exhibition, organised by Fortune Pharmacal Co., Ltd. and co-organised by The WEMP Foundation was a remarkable success. Held from 6th to 9th June 2024 at the K11 Art Mall Piazza, this significant event aimed to address the growing concerns on mental health among children and adolescents in Hong Kong. The opening ceremony saw the attendance of key figures such as Mr. Ted Lai, Deputy Chief Executive of Fortune Pharmacal; Prof. Anthony Wu, GBS. JP, Member of the Advisory Committee of The WEMP Foundation; Alex Mo, CEO of The WEMP Foundation; and Marina Watt, a parent-child education expert, who is also the creator of the children's picture book "Child's Heart, Listen Together - Who Will Listen to My Heart?“. Prior to the ceremony, children’s drawings were collected from 4 participating schools of WEMP’s 18-District Positive Parenting School Tour; and 35 of them were selected and featured in the exhibition to encourage parent-child communication and emotional knowledge. Mr. Mo highlighted the importance of self-awareness among adults, stating that “Both adults and kids possess emotions. It is our responsibilities as adults to handle our own emotions before handle our kids’. This is how we could communicate with the kids, and learn their genuine feelings.” He added, “we share a common vision with Fortune Pharmacal to support and enhance community mental health initiatives. We hope to raise awareness and attract more resources to children's mental health projects.“ The event also showcased an ear-shaped art installation and distributed the children's picture book "Child's Heart, Listen Together - Who Will Listen to My Heart?“. Together with film screenings of ”Sound of Silence”, workshops and lectures on children‘s mental health, the Child’s Heart, Listen Together” exhibition has been scheduled to four primary schools in Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, and Tin Shui Wai from June to September this year. This initiative continues to promote meaningful parent-child engagement and mental well-being across Hong Kong. #wempfoundation #WEMP #FortunePharmacal #ChildsHeartListenTogether

The WEMP Foundation's "Go Go Love" Project, in collaboration with International Social Service Hong Kong Branch (ISSHK) and supported by the generous sponsorship of Sino Group, recently organized a delightful Biodiversity Discovery Tour for underprivileged families from the Sham Shui Po District. The aim of this initiative was to provide these families with a unique and unforgettable experience that combines learning and leisure. The event began with a delectable buffet lunch, courtesy of The Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel Hong Kong, setting the stage for a day filled with wonder, discovery, and cherished memories. After enjoying the sumptuous meal, participants embarked on an educational adventure through Ocean Park, immersing themselves in the park's fascinating world of attractions. One of the highlights of the tour was the visit to the CORAL REEFStoration Centre, the rehabilitation facility of the CORAL REEFStoration Project, where participants were captivated by the sight of over 120 rescued coral fragments. Each fragment represents a noble effort to restore 20 square meters of reefs on the Middle Island, showcasing the importance of coral reef conservation. This particular collaboration between WEMP and Sino Group reflects their shared commitment to providing exceptional parent-child experiences and their dedication to supporting underprivileged families. By offering unique opportunities for families to learn and bond, these organizations foster stronger family connections within the community. During the tour, the families also had the opportunity to meet "Passion", a non-native crocodile rescued from Hong Kong's rural area, at the Crocodile Tour in Croco Land. This encounter provided an engaging way to educate families about the significance of protecting local biodiversity while captivating them with the stories of these incredible reptiles. After the educational tour, families had free time to enjoy Ocean Park, allowing them to bond over shared experiences and create lasting memories together. The WEMP Foundation would like to express its deepest gratitude to Sino Group for their generous sponsorship of this event. Together, we remain committed to curating impactful experiences that enrich the lives of families, ignite the curiosity of children, and inspire a love for our planet's remarkable biodiversity. #wempfoundation #WEMP #GoGoLove #SinoGroup #FamilyBonding #Parenting #WellBeing #Childhood #MentalHealth #InspirationAndCompassion
