A creative clinic where we empower and develop innovate creative solutions to local and global issues.
About us
Micro Galleries is an independent, free socially conscious global initiative, social impact project and virtual creative hub that uses art as a vehicle to create positive change for you, and our world. We are driving a vision that micro change can lead to macro social, environmental, political change and empowerment. Since 2013 we’ve made art accessible and a tool for education and dialogue. The project has made an impact globally: over 21 global initiatives, over seven years, across four continents involving over 1.9 million artists, participants and online engagements and even mentioned in Australian Parliament. So, think of us as providing a kind of urban acupuncture through creative interventions in public spaces, workshops, art tours, symposiums, think tanks, and residencies; a creative clinic where we empower, and develop innovate creative solutions to local and global issues – all which culminates in our annual Micro Galleries Festival, Micro Galleries Live. MG Live works closely with a community to reclaim disused and forgotten spaces and reactivate them as open-air galleries that are free and accessible to the local community. Bringing together international and local artists, the festival features work that aims to celebrate the community and kindle positive change and solutions.

Project / Forward: Seeking Partners to Democratise Access to Digital Art In a world where 3.7 billion people lack access to digital cultural experiences, Project / Forward is transforming unexpected public spaces into vibrant hubs of new media art that envision better futures for all. Imagine public spaces transformed into vibrant hubs of digital art, connecting communities worldwide through visions of better futures - for free. That's Project / Forward! For the global festival on 30-31 May, we're seeking partners across three key categories: 1️⃣ Community Hosts: If you have access to projection equipment and a public space, we'll provide curated content and support to create free, accessible screenings. 2️⃣ Organisations & Festivals: Enhance your programming with our curated digital art that sparks dialogue about our collective future and aligns with your organisational mission. 3️⃣ Private Hosts: Transform your space into a micro gallery by inviting your network to experience new media art in an intimate setting. This initiative addresses critical issues including the innovation gap, cultural isolation, and limited future literacy that persist in under-resourced communities. By democratising access to digital art, we're fostering global dialogue about future possibilities and building digital cultural literacy through direct community engagement. Join our global movement to bridge the digital divide and amplify diverse voices. 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬' 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓-𝟐𝟔 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 - "𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐬: 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞" In this moment of profound global transition, we find ourselves collectively poised at multiple thresholds between crisis and transformation. Drawing inspiration from scientific understanding of threshold events—where small changes trigger dramatic transformations—Micro Galleries' new program positions art as both witness and catalyst at these crucial junctures. https://lnkd.in/gRavGKHb We're proposing a "third ground" that functions as both metaphor and method: a parallel creative force that illuminates pivotal moments and imagines alternative futures where normal social structures dissolve and new possibilities emerge. Two key initiatives launching now: 1️⃣ Global Day of Creative Action: A coordinated 24-hour worldwide creative response to the climate crisis, where artists and communities create locally-relevant climate artworks. This decentralized approach ensures climate narratives reflect diverse lived experiences, not just perspectives from global conferences. https://lnkd.in/gEtB8C5F 2️⃣ Scaled Spaces: Amplifying 20 cultural and creative impact initiatives happening in 2025. Applications close March 1st. https://lnkd.in/gpCfc3hS Urban theory speaks of the right to the city not merely as access to what exists, but the right to change it. In this spirit, we'll cultivate spaces where art becomes a vehicle for collective reimagining and social transformation. Join us at the threshold of what's possible. The program continues launching this week. #CreativeActivism #SocialImpact #ArtForChange #MicroGalleries #ThresholdMoments #ClimateAction #GlobalCreatives

The Good Lab is a community-focused artist incubator and knowledge exchange project aimed at connecting global artists with important societal issues through cultural interaction. Taking place in Chiang Mai, Thailand, in February 2024, the project brought together 21 international and local artists with 14 community organisations to tackle pressing global challenges: Displacement, Climate Change, and Public Space Access. 🎨 “Don’t underestimate micro action! It’s bittersweet to hear that Open Streets Cape Town is winding down. Initiatives like this are a testament to the tireless dedication of independent and not-for-profit organisations...but it’s a constant challenge to sustain these efforts.

It’s bittersweet to hear that Open Streets, Cape Town is winding down. Initiatives like this are a testament to the tireless dedication of independent and not-for-profit organisations, showcasing the incredible power of public spaces to connect people through creativity and culture. Their work is vital to building more inclusive, engaging, and hopeful urban communities, but it’s a constant challenge to sustain these efforts. In 2015, Micro Galleries had the honour of participating in Open Streets, Langa - an unforgettable opportunity to create art in one of South Africa’s vibrant townships. The energy in Langa was unparalleled—local children eagerly joined us, learning how to install artwork and even creating their own installations across the street, which they proudly guarded all day! This project wasn’t just about art; it was about connection. Watching diverse communities come together over creativity and shared hope for a better future was inspiring, and reaffirming. As Open Streets Cape Town hands over the reins, it’s a poignant reminder of the importance of championing these initiatives to keep public spaces alive with creativity, dialogue, and collaboration. This was done in partnership with Very Hong Kong, Taryn Swales and Zena Churchill GAICD, and Thami Sjilia. Images: Me!, and Thami Sjilia. Participating Artists: Feni Chulumanco (South Africa), Gigi Qongoqo (South Africa), Thami Sjilia and guests (South Africa), Vicky Chan, AIA (HK), André Eichman (UK / HK), Bonnie Greene (Australia) Chuck Scalin (USA), CJ Wong (HK), Erlend Depine (Austria), Iiris Kuosmanen (Finland / France), Laura Simonsen (UK/HK), Mim Golub (USA), Noel Wilson (Scotland / Thailand), Suzi Krawczyk Australia, Teresa Laqua (Germany / HK), United Sketches (Global) #ArtForChange #PublicSpaces #CommunityEngagement #CreativeCities

I've spent two days fielding panic, despair, and bewilderment from creatives. All warranted. Now we need next steps. Here's my three suggested next steps for for handling a Trump reality. And remember, you’re not alone. There’s an entire community of creatives who are feeling the same way. Connect with them, and support each other. If you need people, Micro Galleries has them, so reach out and stay in touch. THREE NEXT STEPS YOU CAN TAKE: 1. Channel Your Rage Into Something Constructive You're probably feeling a cocktail of emotions right now. Anger, disbelief, frustration—maybe even a little existential dread. But here’s the thing: you’ve got a superpower that most people don’t. You can create something that speaks louder than any tweet, speech, or policy. Your creativity is the sharpest weapon in your arsenal—use it. 2. Build a Creative Uprising (my favourite!) The world’s going to feel chaotic and uncertain, and it’s easy to retreat into your studio or bedroom, waiting for the dust to settle. But this is exactly the moment for a creative action. Whether it's joining forces with other artists or starting a movement on your own, your voice needs to be heard. Start. Start a collective, build your own platform, or infiltrate existing ones. Gather the rebels, the weirdos, the disruptors. 3. Ignore Him (Inspired by Rachel Honnery) He thrives on chaos, divisiveness, hate, greed, and hysteria. It’s easy to react and be hysterical - we should be. But, we know this tune and it’s pointless and draining. Stay informed but don’t let it turn you into an anxious mess; stay focused on what you know how to do - keep putting good into the world and help those who need it. Ignore him. He will pass. Your work and efforts will remain.

Incredibly proud and in awe of the ever-growing Micro Galleries community and its supporters. Check out MOBPARTY!
Artistic Director, Curator of Public Art Interventions and Community Engagements, Guerrilla Creative Business Consultant.
One of the greatest privileges of being part of the Chiang Mai community is the opportunity to connect with incredible activists and creatives who are actively driving change. Earlier this year, as part of Micro Galleries’ "The Good Lab" program, we collaborated with the inspiring Triple Edge and the incredible Gandje. They gave us insight into the harsh reality faced by many people still trapped within Myanmar, and how creative spaces and platforms for those who’ve escaped can educate, inform, inspire—and most importantly, offer healing. Triple Edge continues to work both inside and outside of Myanmar, determined to support anyone affected by the military junta. Their annual event coming up later this month is something truly powerful: MOB PARTY—a concert to raise funds for those suffering in the humanitarian crisis. Every single dollar raised will go to Metta Charity Foundation, which will channel the funds to internally displaced communities hiding in forests avoiding airstrikes, and struggling to survive in devastated villages. This event is bringing together incredible rap and hip hop artists from around the world and is always one of the most impactful events on the Chiang Mai arts calendar. https://lnkd.in/gB8snT8B But it costs money. When we reached out to the Micro Galleries community, three long-time supporters immediately stepped forward. Huge thanks to the ever-generous Jason Stephenson, who helped cover the bulk of the costs, along with Luciana Rossi and Aude Senelar, who continually demonstrate unceasing generosity for communities-in-need. On a day like today, I think all of us need to hear a story of people fighting against the odds to create meaning, safety, and community, and the people surrounding them who are able to help make this happen. Be one of these people during these times. And, if in Chiang Mai, get your tickets to MOB PARTY! https://lnkd.in/gjZSGMnA
