a+u 24:08 special feature, OMA Shohei Shigematsu, is now out. 34 projects designed by OMA Partner Shohei Shigematsu and the New York office are loosely organized to explore openness of architecture in multiple ways. From creating open-ended programs to designing elements that foster openness to life outside of built boundaries, Shigematsu believes in designing both defined and undefined spaces as a way to embrace the evolution of typologies. Across the fluid framework of the issue are commissioned artworks by Ari Marcopoulos and Lok Jansen representing work in two major cities: New York and Tokyo; essays by Sarah Oppenheimer, Germane Barnes, Nick Axel; and conversations between Shigematsu and Jeffrey Inaba, Carson Chan, and Paola Antonelli dive deeper into how making architecture more open can play out in our physical and communal experience of society.

The Simone Veil Bridge, designed by OMA / Rem Koolhaas and Chris van Duijn, has opened in Bordeaux. The project consists of a platform 549 meters in length and 44 meters wide that provides a new public space for the city. The bridge abandons any interest in style, form, and structural expression in favor of a commitment to performance and an interest in future use by the people of Bordeaux. https://lnkd.in/dFPg-vWq

New images of Apollolaan 171 by Ossip van Duivenbode. Designed by OMA / David Gianotten and commissioned by the Kroonenberg Groep, Apollolaan 171 – recently nominated for the ARC24 Architectuur Award – replaces the original bank building with an open and tactile design: a transparent glass façade along the Apollolaan marks the contemporary office’s inviting character; a brick façade facing the Titiaanstraat integrates it with the neighborhood’s historical architecture.   Read more about the project in recent press: OMA’s ‘kubistische’ compositie past naadloos in Berlages Plan Zuid https://lnkd.in/eaNgx_t8 Afwerend bankgebouw van Quist maakt plaats voor chic kantoor van OMA - dearchitect.nl https://lnkd.in/ez4v7BZV De gesloten kolos van de JP Morganbank is ingeruild voor een uitnodigend bouwwerk met veel glas - Het Parool https://lnkd.in/eeg_2rYX

OMA and UniFor will showcase the PRINCIPLES collection in Australia for the first time during the Perth Design Week (14 – 21 March). The collection will form the PRINCIPLES Square at the Cathedral Square in Perth’s city center. The PRINCIPLES Square will be the central hub for the design festival, hosting a series of outdoor public activities including talks on design related topics, workshops, film screenings, and book readings. OMA and UniFor have worked in close collaboration since 2018 to design the furniture for the Axel Springer campus in Berlin. The collection was eventually developed into the PRINCIPLES collection, which was launched at the Milan Design Week 2022. The PRINCIPLES furniture collection by OMA provides furnishings that can be used by anyone, at any time, to best support the needs of the contemporary workplace and institutions – such as universities and libraries. The PRINCIPLES Square takes advantage of the flexibility offered by PRINCIPLES to support different activities during the Perth Design Week. OMA, UniFor and Perth Design Week have curated a public program with over 20 events at the PRINCIPLES Square. We invite you to sign up for our events. https://lnkd.in/efUkVx5i
